I can't stand political leaders that are arrogant and Barny in my opinion has become too arrogant for his own good and the good of the voters.

1.Firstly when he announced the Perth river front plan he knew it would be controversial because it included closing Riverside Drive but i recall him saying "there has been enough public consultation on this and it will go ahead". These clowns have not done their homework and when Riverside drive closes it will cause mayhem on roads into and out of Perth. As if our roads aren't clogged enough as it is.

I personally wrote to the Minister for Transport about the implications of extra congestion and he said the Northbridge Tunnel was going to be widened to 3 lanes to compensate for the extra traffic.

Well we have seen in Victoria there was a horrific accident in their tunnel and a major contributing factor was said to be there is no emergency lane. The only way the Northbridge tunnel can be widened to 3 lanes is by using the emergency lanes which is fraught with danger. The mere name itself (Emergency lane) says it all. What happens in the event of a bad accident? How does the ambulances, tow trucks, fire brigade and Police get in there? Not to mention where is there to push or park a vehicle that has broken down or simply run out of fuel?

As far as I am concerned Colin Barnett is blinded by arrogance and we the tax payers and road users will be paying for it. The sensible thing to do would have been to have a trial before a shovel was put into the ground by temporarily closing Riverside drive and allowing the emergency lanes to be used in the tunnel for a period of a few months to study the impact of closing off Riverside drive.

But that would be the sensible thing to do but Barney was afraid it would scuttle his ambitions to dig a massive hole on the Esplanade and allow the Swan River to come flooding into the Perth CBD.

2. Then there is the plan to build a new Football Stadium at Burswood. No problem with that but again he wants to dictate to the people (like his comments about air conditioning a couple of years ago) that "people will just have to change their habits and get used to using the train". Firstly he sold off government owned land to James Packer for about 30% below valuation to allow him to build a 6 star hotel, the new stadium which will take until 2020 to be finished at earliest will only be able to seat 60 000 but he says "It will be able to be increased to 75 000 down the track". FFS Colin you want to spend 1 billion dollars to build something that will be outdated by the time it is built let it be someone elses problem another 10 years down the track.

He then denies any private meetings took place with James Packer that involved discussing plans for a football stadium. I would fully expect any discussions with James Packer to include the football stadium so why deny it?

The man is arrogant and how many times have we heard him say to the media with a grin like a Cheshire cat "Look, I am not going to get into a commentary on this matter", when it suits him?? He hired Dixie Marshall from channel 9 to be his media advisor and seems to have built himself his own little castle in West Perth.

We need to send a clear message to politicians this sort of arrogance cannot be tolerated and boot him out of office and restore order in WA.

No argument from me. So often when he talks about what is happening / going to happen he talks about "I" and not "we" the government.

He is has rubbed me up the wrong way since day one when he dismantled labor's waterfront plans specifically saying "I don't like it" and set up his own idea with no public consultation?

Likewise on the stadium he dismantled a perfectly workable Labor plan, that would have been half-built by now, because of his own private agenda.

For a time I have enjoyed his taking on the Eastern States given there is very much a them vs us these days - however I have run out of patience with his inept government's lack of foresight on most other issues - particularly public transport - this city will be gridlocked in 5 years time and they're just sitting and watching.

I have never voted Liberal in my life, dont particularly like Barnett & I usually stay out of these political debates on footy forums but this topic's opening 2 post's pretty much sum's up why W.A is often thought to stand for Wait Awhile by people in the East & a lot of younger West Australians!
A new stadium is drastically needed here & Burswood is easily the best greenfields location not that tin pot rebuild of Subi that was mooted by McGowan, it cant handle a crowd of 40k as it is ffs let alone another 20 or 30k people in the future.
Elizabeth Quay will be a drawcard for Perth in much the same fashion as Darling Harbour & the Docklands precinct have become in Sydney & Melbourne respectively!

If Barnett does lose and McGowans Labor Government wins, will we see delays to the new stadium?

Dream on BH, it will just be an overly expensive place to eat and drink that most West Aussie families will not be able to afford. Got no problem with a waterfront plan but it is how Barny has gone about, he's just dumped it on the people of Western Australia and said too bad this is what I have decided is happening. It wouldn't be too hard to build a tunnel (sink the section of Riverside drive) that runs past it while it is still land and nothing above to worry about but no that's too hard. Barnett has rushed this through because he knows his days are numbered.

Elizabeth Quay will be a stale section of dead water and add to an already over polluted Swan River.

And Barny is still making us Wait A While for his whoopty dooo 60 000 seat stadium.

McGowan I think wants to revisit the building of a new stadium at Kitchener Park (adjacent to Subiaco Oval) at much less cost to taxpayers. I was against that previously but I am worried about how we are going to get to this new stadium at Burswood?

Haha yeah Johnno I am sure the old farts of Sydney & Melbourne were saying the exact same thing as you about the underutilised waste lands on the city's edge like Darling Harbour & the Docklands were before they were transformed into the tourist's mecca they have now become!

That is Sydney and Melbourne mate, not Perth where food and beverage prices are already a rip off. I haven't visited those places but have friends and family that do and we are being taken for a ride over here I can tell you.
