Well done to the Vics on winning the shield. They were the best team during the season as evidenced by them finishing on top of the ladder.

Lets now hope that Cricket Australia consign the Sheffield Shield final to the dustbin of history so that players and spectators don't have to endure another drab display like the last 5 days where only one team was trying to win. It just doesn't work and is not good for the image of the domestic game.

If Cricket Australia want to expose shield players to 5 day cricket then far better to extend the qualifying games to 5 days where both sides would be going for outright wins and then award the shield to the team that finishes top of the ladder after all that.

The Victorians played it beautifully. I don't mind the finals being borring -- WA made 600 one year against the Vics, as was our right having topped the table. Congratulations to both sides. The best way to help Australian cricket would be to have the test players available for four matches a season, two at the start of the season two at the end with those eligible playing in the final.

The problem with the farce of a game played in Hobart over the last 5 days was that from all reports it was played on the same pitch as the WC one day matches. Hence, there was no life in the pitch from the start as evidenced by the opening wicket stands in the first three innings. CA demonstrably whowed that they couldn't care less about their own rules; and as such, the WACA should have sent over an Under 19s to play at Hobart and shown the complete and utter contempt that was due the decision to play the game in Hobart.

Ya seriously reckon had they played at the "g" they wouldnt have produced a road there as well???, as we would have at the WACA had we finished on top??

Seriously good effort by our mob this year , given that it is by no means the most star studded side when you compare it to the Vics , NSW or even Tassie
They should be proud of their efforts & probably came down to the game in Glenelg where they couldn't polish off SA's tailenders in both innings
Really good effort

Now I am completely confused. Somebody please correct me if I have the dates wrong and I'm sorry if it all sounds confusing.

I know that the Shield Final had to be played in Tasmania (thanks to the CA stuff-up) because it was said that the MCG was unavailable due to the World Cup.

I can't remember where in Australia the last World Cup Qualifying matches were played, but the Quarter Final between Australia and Pakistan was played in Adelaide on the 20th March and the Semi Final tomorrow (26th) is in Sydney. The Final will apparently be played at the MCG on Sunday 29th. (Even if Australia aren't in it? I'm sure the Kiwis won't be happy).

The Shield final was played between the 21st and 25th March. Nowhere near the dates of the World Cup matches.

Why then couldn't the Shield Final have been played on the MCG where I'm sure the Vics would have had more supporters than in Tassie?

But the rules are the rules, well some of them are, and you have to play to them.
As Jl said after we won our last game, we won out right and yes we lose a place on the ladder. So much for playing attacking cricket.
They want the states to play attacking exciting cricket all season then pull out a bore fest for the final.
I think the saddest thing about the whole saga is that it was played where there were never going to be crowds to watch the game. I wonder how much CA lost on the game being played down there. For the good of the game it might have been better if The Banana benders finished on top and the Vics had to go up there to play.At least it would have had followers of at least one team at the game.

But we wont see any change coming from CA, as they will be too busy sitting down counting the money they make from the WC.
The SS what Fck is that!!!!

If ya read my reply correctly a/man, i did say IF WE FINISHED ON TOP, we would have prepared a road too.

WA shot themselves in the foot in the first innings.. they should of declared at 300 then get into the vics.. they knew they would be playing for a draw.. this way the game would of been up for grabs..
