The whole voyage was 10 days all up but it took 1.5 days of sailing to get there and back (each way). Spent our days cruising around on zodiacs checking out the wildlife, visiting research stations, learning about the area and its creatures, went for a swim (in my speedos naturally). We were the very last boat of the season too so we didnt see another soul except for scientists based at stations.
It was pretty sweet, the ocean was just starting to freeze over so there was ice plates everywhere starting to join up.

Antartica..did you go down with CSIRO?

South America is flavour of the month at the mo, everyone you talk to has been there or is on the way, I had planned to go there this Jan, but events intervened and cancelled it. Hope to get there, did you go to Lake Titticaca?

Nah not with CSIRO. Went with a company that left from Ushuaia in the south of Argentina (most southern city in the world!).

South America is amazing, it gets a pretty bad wrap internationally but I dead set felt safer over there walking around at 3 in the morning than I would in Northbridge. We actually went over twice. Once in 2011 where we went to Argentina, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. Second time was in 2013 where we spent our time in Chile then went south to Ushuaia in then over to Antarctica.
Yea we visited Lake Titicaca on our way from Peru to Bolivia.

I tell everyone to get over there. Its just so diverse and the people are so friendly.

I must admit, since starting this thread I'm amazed at how well travelled some of our posters are. I guess I had a preconceived idea that most WAFL supporters probably give Bali a run every couple of years with the wife and kids but that's about it. Maybe the demographic of this site is not indicative of your average WAFL supporter...don't know..but some on here have been to some fantastic places that's for sure.

Yep, Mind you I give Bali a run every couple of years as well, just got back actually was there for NYE...lol

To be honest I dont go to well with the long haul flights anymore.

Cheers - very interesting, certainly I'd love to get there one day, interesting the safety issues, I was talking to a guy who went to Rio for NYE and he said he was pretty uncomfortable security wise,,,But I agree I felt safer walking around Africa than I would in Northbridge as you say.

I have always been fascinated by the Andes and Lake Titicaca from when I watched Michael Palins train travel show in 1980,,he crossed there and it looked amazing.

I have a mate working for Aust Gov in Bogota Columbia, I think thats a bit dodgy.

Love yer #3 ucker. It's a beautiful little place and Conwy castle was really worth the visit. Also loved Llangollen, Llandudno and Portmaddog. If you want to go back a hundred years, Anglesea is it - lovely quaint place. Shite sorry, I'm rambling.
