Latest call from Antony Green is that Basil will get up but more importantly, that moll McGurk looks like getting rolled in my electorate which is a good thing for Freo generally.

Not if you look at Hullet - shes, a greens funded by climate 200 a lot more nutty than whats there at the moment tbh, at any rate she will sit there for four years totally ignored and irrelevant in a alp dominated house, freo will be worse off.
Maybe so Baz...but McGurk was just incompetent and a total waste of space.  Hullet can just sit there, draw a salary, make a few noises about climate change and generally be as ineffectual as the other no hopers on the WA cross bench.

It's the upper house I'm concerned about with those Green nutcases having the balance of power.  If I were Meg O'Neill and the big 3 miners I'd be getting nervous about now.

Was thinking that maybe the WA voters were not prepared to fully turn on the incumbent, as has been said before they are a centralist government unlike the lefties in Canberra and have had a dream ride with Covid, huge mining royalties and the massive increase in GST returns. Hopefully WA voters are keeping their powder dry for a protest vote against the ALP Feds.

My guess is that the stat Libs encourage Mettams to stay on for 18months - 2 years then she will step down for the "anointed one" who will have had that time in parliament to at least know where the front door of the House is located.

Yep agree SS. Mettam stays on for a while longer to get some experience in the newbies and also to see if any natural leaders step up.

Kudos to Mettam for taking on the toughest job in Australian politics. At least she did her best and saw it through to the bitter end. I don't think anyone could question her work ethic, tenacity or resilience, unfortunately it wasn't enough.

Still no votes counted today in Fremantle.
Still at 59% counted. With a,0.6 % lead to the Teal Candidate.
The rezoning of the Fremantle state seat added parts,of the Curtin federal seat.
.The lady in front wants to close down all Wa,Lng projects.

Agree on the Greens, The Freo Teal is Anti Burrup and wants to stop all future Gas Projects, she wont have a say downstairs but as  you say the Greens nutjobs will be a  big problem now that Pettit has some say; the bloke that sent Freo broke, is a real nightmare, only good I see is the Libs and Nats will team up with Alp to get through any meaningful resources projects.

True Gtrx, Fremantle lost a big chucnk of old school blue collar in Hammy Hill and Spearwood that changed to dynamic to a real inner city greens bastion, gee I was down the Dav ( South Beach Hotel ) Saturday and some of the locals are real out there now, that area is a world away from the working class warfie robbs jetty 70s.

Will be a waste of time Mettam staying leader of the party if she is just being used as a seat warmer! Would be a bad look for some one else to replace her before the next state election. The libs need to get organized, all be on the same page with no stuffing around. I guess that is easier said than done. I guess an announcement will be made after the votes all been counted. For mine the counting of the votes been slow.

I am only going by what figures were after polling close on Saturday, as most here are I guess.
But the Libs can claim nothing so far.A massive swing agaisnt aLabor, mostly going to Green, Indies, One Nation and as would be expected the Nats.
Labor need to take more notice of what the country folk are saying. But a massive win, regardless, by Labor.
Fremantle, is a surprise to me. That is an enormous swing to the Indie candidate.
I woul dhave thought that if there was going to be that sort of swing, it would have come from theb Greens. The Greens and their supporters have for years been chipping away at the sould of Fremantle. It is not the same Fremantle that was once a stamped Labor seat before an election was actually called.
Bu, the majority of the voting public, though disgruntled with Labor, were not going to go back to a negative government.
As for the Upper house, the Legislative Council, the Labor government changed the way it was voted on, and many said that it would favour Labor in the way that the vote was changed.
I wonder how many now say, it has theexact opposite effect.
LAbor looks like going back into a minor role in that respect.
I noticed the Libs bloke on the ABC was critical of Labor having changed that vote, but didn't conced the obvious, that Labor have given the strength back to the country in the ay that it has panned out.
Again, Labor, like most times they have had control in the Lower house, now have to battle to get pol, icies past.
The Liberals have almost always had the power of the Uper house to stop Labors power in the Lower House.
Well done Labor, at least... another four years in power.

Very slow vote counting

I think best way forward is combined Liberal National Party along Qld lines.

Mettam will probably sit around for a while, not much will happen now that the dust settles, 4 years is a long time, plenty of seats in reach for 2029.

Good to see footage of Basil Snozz doing the Zorba back at his campaign headquarters’s,because earlier in the night when things weren’t looking that rosy as he sat on the panel dissecting the numbers,he had for mine, taken the appearance of a constipated Santorini mountain goat,as he really looked like he was under severe duress.
