My first exposure to VFL/AFL football was on the Winners on the ABC in the 1970's.

To be truthful, AFL footy is lame now in comparison.

I know some will say that the WAFL isn't as good either but the WAFL has been decimated by the draft.

On the other hand the AFL has gained the benefit of the draft, the big money, full time training/coaching and state of the art facilities, yet it too isn't as good.

A lot of the people who seem to have an interest in the AFL might not remember how good it used to be in the 1970's and 1980's. It's ordinary now.

Couldnt agree more with all of the above mate ..its funny how fox footy (a channel dedicated to 24/7 footy) rarely if ever shows games from the 80's/90's anymore could it be they & the AFL do not want the gullible viewing public of today to see that they are nowadays watching an inferior product???

Maybe yeah. It's almost unrecognisable now as compared to then. I fear for the day when the game resembles Gaelic Footy more than Australian Footy. I hope it never happens but it seems to be heading that way by design.

I just wish our very own WAFC would put their foot down & not agree to some of these incredibly soft pedantic rules Bartlett & Co from the AFL gravy train bring in year after year ..I know I would much rather watch a physical contest ..but unfortunately there is Buckley's chance of that! :(

I have read and laughed a little but the difference between then and now for both the WAFL and AFL is, one is a huge business in the entertainment field played for the sponsors to get to the viewers and the other was essentially a sport played for the fans and not the sponsors, whilst the other is a very medium business that is like so many parts manufacturing businesses, reduced to supporting ford or GMH (closest comparison) I could come up with!

The trouble for many is not understanding the change and accepting that their beloved club only exists as a link in the chain between a 10 year old and the draft and as mercenary as that sounds ............... .

The other problem for AFL supporters is that they don't even see that link, often but not always.

Just my twopennith worth!
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

It was overdue for a negative post about the WAFL from either anchor or Bazza ..I mean it had been a whole 3 hours since the last!!
If you are happy with your lot of watching garbage AFL games like that rubbish served up yet again today then stick to that & leave the WAFL you long ago abandened to those of us who are passionate about real tribal suburban footy!

AKA and I have at last got on to the same page ;) .
But the white coats can't be all that far away for you BH. But continue to snipe and take pot shots it suits your personality.

You & Chris have a bit more in common such as long ago abandoning the WAFL & South Freo for the luxury of the computer!!
