What is your evidence it was a bias survey, and exactly how were the results manufactured and do you have a broader survey that challenges the results?

Shit Bazza like all polls it is slanted and as I said AFL fans far outnumber WAFL fans any way.. That is assuming WAFL fans even knew the poll was on? Whether they bothered with it? Do They read the West and the sporting section that doesnt cover WAFL much and is mainly AFL news.
Was the poll on the WAFL site.. Was it a click in the box poll like many publications do online now?
First most would of heard about it is when a post was made on here. Count me in that group.
At the end of the day it will achieve nothing anyway and most probably forgotten by most. The WAFC/WAFL would not react to it as they react to nothing except their own self motivated goals.

This Thread is most probably getting more reaction than the Phantom Poll did. How many people actually responded to the Poll do we have that figure? Cant see AFL supporters being interested unless THEIR WAS A PRIZE being offered :( and that would most probably be 2 tickets to a AFL GAME :whistle:

Well said mate ..no surprises that Bazza (Chris) & anchor are negative about anything to do with the WAFL & their fans it has been that way since the footygoss/waflonline days!
The gullible public of today are being sold a lemon by todays media who talk up as much as possible how great the AFL is today as they all have a vested interest in it be it TV ratings, selling newspapers etc but those of us who watched footy in the 80's & 90's will say the footy was a helluva lot better back then with genuine contests & champion footballers who were also working real jobs at the same time!
On another point brought up about football talk at work interestingly in my workplace the talk would be 80% WAFL to 20% AFL & the age range would be oldest 50 to youngest early 20's! In fact there is barely any talk about the AFL games themselves more about Dream Team as the only AFL talk & who has who in your respective team.
More & more people are getting disillusioned with the AFL with rubbish one sided games lowlighted by rolling mauls, poor disposal especially as it is by full time athletes on massive coin, in fact you could count the genuine stars of the comp on one hand nowadays whereas in the 80's & 90's every side had half a dozen or more greats!

Alright so somehow you automattically assume the 5000 regular attendess, dont buy the west , no body in there family does, dont watch TV that advertised the survey etc etc ... what s the evidence of that,,,especially as some of the respondants actually had some WAFL connection.

Can you guarantee that if a referedum was held statewide the bulk of the WA population would vote any different way than this snap shot???

All you had to do was log on line and do the survey boys,a simple thing to do even for you guys.
So BH if you don't follow the WAFL as closely as you that mean we don't live and breathe football.!!!!Time to come out of the time warp and see the roses.
I have probably seen more and will see more football that you will ever see.I was almost an old man when you started watching the game.Trouble is you got your head stuck so far up your clackers that you can't see they sun shine.

With all due respect A/man the vast majority of the AFL supporters who DID fill in the survey would know next to nothing about the WAFL. As such it is hardly an informed opinion of whether the alignment was good for the WAFL or not. As Swans didn't have a game on Saturday I was able to watch some of the ABC game on the TV. This included a halftime interview with one Grant Dorrington. What an interview it was!!!! The interview was significant insofaras he was:

(i) incapable or unwilling to identify any major achievements he had with respect to the WAFL;

(ii) he mentioned how he was involved when the Eagles, Dockers and Peel came into being. He spoke about the Eagles and the Dockers and was singularly silent when it came to Peel;

(iii) he was at pains to mention that he was but one of many when it came to decisions such as the rebranding of the WAFL to WestStar. 'It wasn't his fault'.

Finally, perhaps those who have a keen interest in the WAFL and are cognisant of its proud history do not want it to go the way of the VFA/VFL.

mikeh wrote: Although.... as I recall from the survey results only 11% of the sample said that they did NOT have a WAFL team. So that means 89% who follow the WAFL even if its just a quick check of the scores in the papers on monday! Surely some reason for hope here? Maybe the product needs to be marketed better and differentiated from the AFL somewhat. I'm sure there is some guru out there who could do a good job.
Differences I can think of:

1. have a kick on the oval with the kids
2. Listen to the coaches
3. have a chat with the players
4. Sit anywhere on the ground
5. Banter with opposition supporters
6. Enjoy a beer with your mates after the game and watch the presentations

I'm sure there's more, we don't have to trash AFL in order to promote the WAFL.

Mikeh if you would a Swans' Annual report you will see that attendances at Swans' games in the year 1987 were approximately half of the attendances in 1986. In 1986 we finished last. A similar situation occurred in 1994 to 1995 where the attendances were approximately halved when the Dockers came in. Swans' situation was typical of all WAFL clubs. Of the 89% who ostensibly had a WAFL team they supported the actual percentage of those who attended an home and away game in 2012 would be very small indeed.

As to those who say they don't want the WAFL to die, yet say it is inevitable are mistaken. If the WAFC, and indeed the AFL, were interested in a grassroots competition like the WAFL (or SANFL) they would provide the financial wherewithal to support it and also would not make decisions which work against the best wishes of the WAFL competition.

As an example people may have read about the 18s match against the NT. It was a meaningless game; the result has no bearing on which team wins the competition. So instead of those 18s players playing for their WAFL club they play a meaningless (compare with a one day cricket match) match.

I had a quick look at the survey results. Were there questions about the best WAFL ground, toughest and best WAFL players? Was there a question to determine how many WAFL supporters support an AFL club?

Put simply if you were a supporter of the WAFL primarily or exclusively how many questions of the total would have been irrelevant? I supsect the overwhelming majority of the questions were written from an AFL perspective and as such it would been of little interest or appeal for a WAFL supporter to waste the time in filling it out.

There is a saying: lies, damn lies and statistics. Applies very well to the 'survey'.

The fact that most people (the footy public or as you call them AFL followers) know nothing about WAFL - I agree with, but swan what does that tell us, the first priority for most people in this state is the eagles or dockers, surely you can accept that, most punters dont rush down to bassendean or fremantle oval to watch training or down the shops to read the wafl results in the paper or watch the news for the ins and outs for south freo on friday night or read the subi stats in the sundays times anymore, they want info on the eagles and dockers, sad fact but true, its not 1980 anymore and clock will not turn back.

Bazza I don't think any WAFL supporter believes we will return to the halcyon days of the 1980s. However, what most of us believe is that the WAFL can remain as a viable competition if it is supported by the WAFC and the AFL. What we believe is that contrary to helping the WAFL there are active members of the WAFC, AFL and media who are doing the exact opposite.

If you saw the Dorrington interview it is patently clear that he and his cronies in the WAFC have no interest in supporting the WAFL. They are completely subordinate to their masters in the AFL.

what delusional miopic universe do you live in??? so you think a football survey should ingore AFL despite the fact that 40,000 turn up to watch the eagles and dockers and about 5000 people turn up to watch 4 WAFL games each week.
