Being around an Amateur club on a Saturday, i hardly hear anyone talk about Wafl its all AFL some of the older blokes may talk about it but its very rare.

So the results regarding the survey are hardly surprising, lets face it the young kids coming through aren't interested in going to an empty stadium to watch Wafl i would go far as saying the only time the Wafl may enter their lives is if they get on a colts list.

Yet again people are telling me something about myself that even I didn't know. Let me tell SD and BH you should be out with your crystal balls and making a fortune at the Midland markets every weekend. You know it all.Key board heroes who have nothing to do but bloody whinge.
All you had to do was log on line and do the survey boys,a simple thing to do even for you guys.
So BH if you don't follow the WAFL as closely as you that mean we don't live and breathe football.!!!!Time to come out of the time warp and see the roses.
I have probably seen more and will see more football that you will ever see.I was almost an old man when you started watching the game.Trouble is you got your head stuck so far up your clackers that you can't see they sun shine.

I agree with you somewhat anchor, but not sure I'd have put it that strongly   But then a spade is a spade! I love my Sharks and the AFL has lost a lot of my interest over the alignment mess (imo). But facts is facts - a 66/33% split says it all. The survey isn't really indicative of where we really are at. I'm quite surprised you people aren't slagging the WCE because their supporters were the highest respondents.....you guys are slipping :) . I didn't do the survey, as I was out of Aussie at the time, but as much as I hate to admit it, if they hold another in 5 yrs time it will probably be a 80/20 split - and so it will go.

That's spot on mate, in my work place which has loads of staff , there would not be a single peron who talks WAFL , it's all AFL.

I need to travel with my job and everywhere work takes me, I notice the Wafl is largely ignored by everyone. You turn on the damned tv, radio, open a newspaper, magazine or visit a news webpage and one has to spend a lot of time hunting for any Wafl coverage, if you can find any! Whereas most other sports are given headlines like status and being rammed down your bloody throat whilst being relentlessly driven by the media. I am not surprised of the young ones nowadays because they don't know any different. Can the supposed footy commission and the main stream media start supporting and reporting on the Wafl more? Well yes they could. But do they wish to- it appears no they don't.

Although.... as I recall from the survey results only 11% of the sample said that they did NOT have a WAFL team. So that means 89% who follow the WAFL even if its just a quick check of the scores in the papers on monday! Surely some reason for hope here? Maybe the product needs to be marketed better and differentiated from the AFL somewhat. I'm sure there is some guru out there who could do a good job.
Differences I can think of:

1. have a kick on the oval with the kids
2. Listen to the coaches
3. have a chat with the players
4. Sit anywhere on the ground
5. Banter with opposition supporters
6. Enjoy a beer with your mates after the game and watch the presentations

I'm sure there's more, we don't have to trash AFL in order to promote the WAFL.

Must at admit was shocked 11 % had no club at all, in 20 yrs it will be 50 % , take a miracle to stop it

Did anyone hear brad hardie this arvo, saying word is the afl want 2 more clubs in by 2020, this years ratings are up 13 % , they don't give a toss about attendances anymore it a all about TV viewing now.

Did anyone see that clown Dorrington interviewed on ABC Sat arvo? He reckons his greatist achievments are the creation of the Eagles, Dockers and Peel! Earlier in the interview he said he had to give up footy because he got too many concussions, i would argue he has never come out of his concusive state going on his list of so called achievments..its because of the likes of him the game hardly resembles anything of the great game we once had.BH told me he heard David Parkin state in an interview during the week that Players of today dont enjoy the game anymore at AFL level as its over structured and there is no room for any fun, i have barely watched a full ame of AFL for a few yrears now but caught a little of the Eagle v St Kilda today and apart from a close finish it was an ordinary game as most are these days because the talent pool has been diluted. The Swans v Perth game last Sat had it all, raw footy played by real blokes who appreciate and love the game, and you could get up close and personal to watch it. Its an indictment that Dorro is spruiking his so called achievements, instead of promoting the WAFL as they have neglected for a decade or more.
And it says a lot about the survey that it was in The Channel Seven owned West who also are tied to the Eagles. How wqas it ever going to be an unbiased survey. Some of you on here are so down on the WAFL and negative i reckon the Mods should piss you off and you can go and find an AFL site to talk on, and that starts with you Wanchorman
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Good input SwanDog..I think you are talking to the Converted on here and the Snipes from the AFL supporter (note is only really one) are pretty baseless and dont warrant a response.
I put the demise soley down to the WAFC/WAFL who have done their best to destroy our Once mighty comp. No media to talk of and no promotion certainly doesnt help along with all the other changes they have made and are now making. RIP WAFL 1885-2013. Destroyed by Greed and Dictators

From Wiki and the last sentence says it all

The WAFL was founded in 1885 as the West Australian Football Association (WAFA), and has undergone a variety of name changes since then, re-adopting its current name in 2001. For most of its existence, the league was considered one of the tradition "big three" Australian rules football leagues, along with the Victorian Football League (VFL) and South Australian National Football League (SANFL). However, since the introduction of two Western Australia-based clubs into the VFL (later renamed the Australian Football League) – the West Coast Eagles in 1987 and the Fremantle Football Club in 1995 – the popularity and standard of the league has decreased to the point where it is considered a feeder competition to the AFL.

anchorman wrote: The survey results that were in the West Saturday had nothing to do with the AFL.It was a West Australian(paper) survey. The AFL one has still not been published.
I have said before, if there is a survey that is about something that is near and dear to your heart, fill the bloody thing out.It is no good whinging about it after the results have been published.
AKA I have said as soon as the Fatman wanted the competition to be an 18 man comp that eventually he would want it to be 20.there will be two conferences or what ever you like to call it, in years to come. Two lots of ten sides. It is an inevitable happening. He even spoke a few years ago about another team from WA.
I don't think any one wants the WAFL to fold or disappear, but again I see it as an inevitable thing.Maybe a lesser competition will be run.But the WAFL and other second tier competitions will get weaker and weaker.Maybe the colts type competition will take over from the WAFL,but will be run by the AFL.Which is sad.
But it is no good sticking our heads in the sand and saying these things wont happen, they will.

Thats very true, the survey was open to anyone to submit too, it was a general public survey and included questions on the WAFL so how can anyone say it ignored WAFL.

What would be inaccurate would be to set up a survey at the front gate of a WAFL ground survey the 1500 people to walk in and then somehow say that was an accurate refelction of where footy is at in the entire state.
