Ok what do the libs need to do in the lead up to either limit the defeat, claw back some ground and be an effective opposition, I cannot see them winning but they need to get a backbone and start being effective in opposition.

Tough being an opposition during a pandemic as Albanese has discovered. Realistically I think that the Libs need to focus on saving the furniture for a tilt in 2025 when they will more than likely have someone like Zac Kirkup in charge. Their plan should be to present an alternative economic blueprint post covid. Also even though McGowan is busting the scales of popularity at the moment there is a danger that he could become so arrogant that he might disappear up his own arse like Emperor Barnett did towards the end of his term. The Libs might be able to gain some traction on this as West Aussies like someone with confidence and who stands up for WA but quickly go cold on them if they get too full of themselves like Uncle Colin discovered

I agree the arrogance could be the achillies heal but I suspect he is abit smarter than that!

I think the China issue is the elephant in the room. How this handled federally and by this government will be or could be a sticking point.

If Sneakers takes the lead in the approach and redoes the budget with a lower ore return then folk will see that as good, Lisa needs to jump on bord so that she separates the libs from the national party.

Liza's only chance was Covid running rampant and encourage every liberal voter to use postal votes. That's the blueprint now for anyone that previously had no hope.

I've read on here many times that people considered Barnett was arrogant towards the end of his premiership but I disagree. I think he was tired when you consider the amount of time he was in politics dealing with the likes of Buswell and just out of favour. But when you look at what he achieved in his 8 years leading the state he really was very good. Things like Optus Stadium, Elizabeth Quay, Midland Health Campus, the Gateway project, Forrestfield airport rail link, native title breakthroughs, Perth Children’s Hospital and the new museum really have left a terrific legacy for him and his government. The current Libs need someone with presence and vision otherwise they'll be in opposition for a very long time imo.

BC I must admit my attitude to the Barnett years has softened with what he built (still hate the bell tower) but the debt stills rankles when it was avoidable with a bit more of conservative approach, - instead of budgeting on ore being over $100 when it was below $80 - which is a real trap for McGowan.

Nailed it TT, the Libs have no hope next year may even end up with less members given McGowans astronomical popularity levels, he could end up with 4 terms if he wants to, guaranteed 3 at least. Given his centralist political position, he has a broader appeal than the federal left wingers like Albo so he feels safer to vote for.

Lisa needs to remember what she has said previous. Because everytime Lisa talks something different is said to her previous speech or statement.
One example is Lisa is now a Dockers fan.But has been seen numerous times at Optus +Subiaco wearing Eagles jumpers +Scarves. And border openings and hard borders.Heard half a dozen different positions on this from Lisa.

A point of order Grump but I think it was Richard Court who built the bell tower.
