Good question mate, the biggest issue to come out of today’s games.

Totally unacceptable spineless non effort put up by 90% of the players Mike.
Changes needed and not just in playing personnel as we are going nowhere but backwards at a rate of knots and resemble a rabble

young Bill got another go mate bit there

Yes he was good Southerner and so was Farrant

Mike or others. I’m interested in young Lachlan Riley who crossed from Peel and is playing ressies. Any chance of getting a run in the league?

I wouldnt be surprised if he gets a game against his old team next week Singha. He is averaging nearly 20 touches in the reserves. He has to be a better bet than Josh Simpson. At least the effort would be there.

If there is a plan and it consists of kicking the ball in any direction except towards the goal then we are following the plan to the letter.
On the drive back home I pondered over whether I have seen a more disinterested, spineless person in a Swans Jumper than Josh Simpson.
Just another example of the wonderful recruiting by the lawnmower man.
This season is over and at the risk of sounding like a broken gramophone, nothing will change unless we clean out from the top.
if you wonder what I am on about, take time to review our long term plan and KPI's and none of them say anything about winning games of football and participating in finals.

That is exactly the reason why I am sadly going to walk away from Swans at the end of this year, there is no motivation within the club to win games and make finals any more, SDFC is now a community and social club and if I want that I can go somewhere closer to where I live.

mikeh: We all love your posts, whether SD win lose or draw, try not to walk away.

The game has been over-run by managerialism lads, sadly. I remember St Kilda, one of the most successful sport's clubs ever created in the Commonwealth of Australia, sacked Malcolm Blight, a premiership coach double, no less, because he could not write up a strategic plan. Malcolm's plan, of course, would have been to win games of football for the club. All coaches today have to go through accreditation, where they have to do cert 4 in 'training and assessment', which means that they can do a power-point presentation on the theory of coaching, particularly defensive coaching, but little else.

When was the last time SD targeted and got the best available be that coach or players...Coach wise 1977 with John Todd, player wise 2008- Geappen, Twomey, Robinson??

What we are seeing now is the end result of years of not setting the bar high enough and just happy to accept second rate!

Things can actually be turned around reasonably quickly at WAFL level if everyone involved in the football department (players, coaches, managers) are prepared to roll up the sleeves and put in the required effort to be successful which is not happening currently!

BH we have been done for a few salary cap breeches. When we have bought in players..2012 was the last time we where done..It does look like we will have to go further backward to go forward..We have had some players leave the club in the last few weeks...Do you think we will win another game this year??

Absolutely on the money trsm and Mike. If you want to be a destination club for players, a value proposition for sponsors and something to follow and be proud of for members and supporters, winning games must be up there as a priority target. When that happens everything else including the feel good stuff virtually takes care of itself. To not even mention on field success and the various ways to measure it in future planning is a nonsense for your average ground level WAFL supporter and down right negligent from a club perspective.

GTR we have never officially broken the salary cap, in 2012 as you posted we were fined for self reported irregularities after an investigation but we were not over the cap despite a report from the west at the time which they had to update some time later.
As for this year I cant see us winning another game when it is left up to a handful of players each game to carry the load whilst certain others bludge!
