This is last chance cafe for Swans. Victory will put us 1 game out of 5th spot with a decent percentage. Defeat will see us 3 games adrift and curtains for 2019. The forecast for saturday looks pretty dire with 30mm+ of rain forecast. There is some doubt about when the storm will strike, could be sometime in the late afternoon so if this happens obviously an early lead is vital. Seems like ages ago that we beat an under confident West Perth at Joondalup on a sunny day in April. Since then the Falcons have recovered nicely to put themselves back in the hunt whereas Swans have gone baclwards.

Interesting point was made by a few swans fans on here about on field leadership. It was noticeable last week that Kane Mitchell was almost coaching the team on the ground, pointing out where teammates should be and yelling instructions. I havent noticed too much of that from the senior players at Swans who are generally quiet blokes who lead by example. Swoop used to play this on ground coaching role for us in our halcyon days. Maybe Swans need someone in the midfield to play this role. Coaches can only do so much from the box.

Usually good games of footy between these two clubs.
Out of the last 5 matches, West Perth have won 3 to Swans 2.
And Swans don't have any Home ground advantage. That is currently negative 11 which means they are behind the 8 ball even before the match begins.
Despite that, Swans are averaging 30 and a half disposals / goal whilst West Perth are sitting on 32 and a half.
The issue for Swans is their lack of ball possessions and use of. If Swans can address some of the problems, there's no reason they can't record a win this week. However West Perth seem to be travelling along ok currently. They have themselves in the top part of the league ladder (and in the Reserves also).
Really looking forward to this match.

Have seen most games this year and for mine the effort has been there for most of the games. They've struggled to play four quarters at times but I think its easy to forget just how young this team is. Average age last Saturday was about 21 I believe, and they're missing the on field leadership of Ellard and Palmer. Stephens has played a tagging role on the best opposition mids the last two or three games, he's 26 but only played a dozen games. I think they're going OK considering the lack of experience. They've been in most games until sheer class over runs them. Could easily have a much better win - loss record, hopefully they can maintain the effort and results will come.

All very valid points Dingo. One thing I have noticed is that Swans don't have too many players in the 50 -100 game bracket who add a bit of experience to the team, there is a gap between the veterans of the team in Notte, Riggio, Howard etc and the young guys, some of whom have played less than 20 games. Teams like Subiaco and Claremont have a lot more mature experienced bodies on the park.

Mikeh,
We don't have the experience because our former dud coach who in 7 years took us to 1 finals win and that was in his last year, being the 7 year of a 20 year rebuild.
During in that time we have produced many good players, 50% of which were drafted and the other 50% became disillusioned with the coaching and management

The lawnmower man, with the support of the fireman and school teacher continue to recruit duds, whether they be convicted drug cheats, shoe throwers and former players who for very
good reasons nobody else wanted.
How do you build any discipline into a group when there is no leadership on or off the field.
I am on record at the start of the year in saying that we will run around in the wilderness for many more years unless we change now.
The fireman (7yrs), teacher (7 yrs) (and lawnmower man (10yrs) have had ample time to address the problems and yet here we are.
The USA had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash and Stevie Wonder.
Swans have no hope, no cash and its no wonder.

Out of interest who would you propose go into those 3 positions at Swans TRSM?
