We lost Ugle in the first 10 minutes mate stopped our rebound.

Mate one player ain't the reason why SD lost by 50+...

50+????
Its no wonder both SF & GWS are basket cases on the field!
In case you didnt actually watch the game before commenting which knowing you wouldnt surprise me it was less than a kick the difference in the last qtr before Subi kicked a lot of goals in junk time.
Ugle nearly our best player this year went off early in the 1st qtr, not saying the result would have been different but margin definitely.
You do the maths tho judging on your effort totalling up the margin you better not hey!! :pinch:

Yes & your best player for the last few years didnt front up at all for us yesterday...

Ames now plays for Subi?

Ames vs McDougall would be a good duel...

Haha McDougall, now he has been a real find!!

Still more value than Spencer was at WP!!

Hahaha yeh what a spud!!

Fuck me, have a listen to the superstars of the competition as @ June 8th, pulling the piss out of a past Premiership player and slagging off our Premiership from last year. I hope this little "glitch'' does not snow ball !

if the snowball did grow Leedy, I reckon it will either be the fault of Ugles injury,Tallens punctured lung or that ump who likes to show the SDFC members the footy at half time.......take your pick mate....bit harsh on Spencer....no doubt Kraks is a spud too?......

Since then we have been patchy and relied on bursts of goals to get us home. The reason that Swans have continued their winning run was that their opposition was not good enough to take advantage of their lapses.

Well, today we came up against a team that was good enough and Swans in the end were found wanting. It was a funny game, even though the scores were close for much of the 120 minutes, I always had the feeling that Subiaco were in control, their disposal was so much cleaner than ours, there were just too many fumbles and dropped marks by Swans particularly in the backline.

We only ever led in the game for about two minutes in the 3rd quarter and this sparked the lions into kicking 6 unanswered goals to take a stranglehold on it. I have to give credit to our guys for fighting the game out and when Ryan Davis kicked his 5th goal at about the 15 minute mark of the last quarter, I had a fleeting thought that we just might snatch it, given that Subi were coming off a 5 day break and they only had 2 rotations. I had hoped that maybe they had run out of gas, but the effort of playing catch up footy all day took it's toll on our guys in the last 15 minutes and an 8 goal loss was perhaps a little unfair on Swans given the competitiveness of the game.

I thought we missed Ames so much today as the defence appeared clumsy and lacking in its usual poise. Obviously the loss of Ugle early didn't help either. There were many goals conceded by poor turnovers and just a lack of pressure on the Subiaco forwards. There was one incident in the 3rd quarter where a Swans player kicked in after a point but went over the line. From the subsequent bounce down, a Subiaco player was able to snap a goal virtually unchallenged. All it needed was someone to smash it through for another point. Brent Latch dropped an elementary mark which led to a Lions goal at a crucial time and generally looked uncertain. He is a young guy so hopefully he can learn from this.

Swans stayed in the game for so long because of some very good individual performances, Elari, Riggio, Davis and Boekhurst were all excellent contributors but this is not how the team won 8 games in a row and for the first time I could probably point to about half a dozen passengers in the team. They will only win games if everyone contributes to the cause which has certainly been the case for the season to now.

So a reality check for the boys and it will be interesting to see how they respond to this. I think they will regroup but of far more concern to me today was the pathetic performance of the reserves who could only kick 2 goals in four quarters of football. You would have to say that nobody would be pushing the current league players for their spots based on that performance.

Mike in fairness to the Ressies they were totally outplayed but we had no bench to speak of after half time with boys going down left, right & centre, Broady is certainly one who deserves another shot. Im gathering you dont watch the Colts at all but there are some very promising boys coming through the club and I have no doubt a few could step up to the Seniors if required.

BH you are right. We have to accept that given the number of players we lost from last season and with our current injuries our Reserves' results have to be put into perspective. We would have had at least three colts' players playing in the reserves yesterday. Also, where are Subiaco in the Reserves? Did they lose or gain players on balance coming into the 2014 season?

BC again perspective is required. Losing Ugle on top of the absences of Ames and Casserley obvioulsy had an impact on our game yesterday.

Would any Swans' supporter complain about our 8-2 start to the season? I suggest the answer is an unequivocal NO.

we all get injuries 42 including Twomey, Mahoney, Deluca, MacDougall and add Stockley into the mix during the game and it obviously had an impact on our game as well...but hey, that's footy.

BC No-one is suggesting that other teams don't get injuries. All one was doing was putting the defeat into perspective. Given the number of players who left over the summer break, including Twomey, and also not forgetting that without exception the supposed experts all picked Swans to win the wooden spoon it is reasonable that without Ames, Cass and Ugle we were going to be in a bit of trouble on Saturday.

I don't know any Swans' supporters who would be unhappy with our 8-2 win loss record thus far this season.

Subi had about 12 players missing from the team that played at the back end of last year. Certainly doing a lot better than I expected given that sort of turnaround in numbers. Loved Bassendean on Saturday, I thought it was a terrific game of footy.

I hear what you say. After watching Subi against the Tiggers the week before and looking at the line-ups and form and betting and tipping and where the game was played and the result from the last time we met this season - my perspective and most others was that Swans would and should win. Did you pick subi to win ???

The fact that you guy's have been playing good footy this season and that most people (including myself) picked you guy's to struggle is irrelevant. I like you would be happy for my team to be 8 and 2 for the season but you've set the bar and it's there to be maintained. Don't get satisfied with a season at the halfway point. Remember most of those supposed experts would have changed their tune by now and picked the swannies to beat subi in this game.(myself included) The players and coaching staff would still no doubt have been confident of a win and therefore dissapointed with the loss. I think it's great for swans and the comp that your doing well and have exceeded everyones expectations so far but we all know it can change fast. Subi had just lost a few recently after you guy's beat us last time. The seasons still got a few twists and turns - subi may not make the finals and you guy's may not either ??? I tipped subi to finish 5th and i think you guy's last or second last ??? I'm happy to be wrong at the moment but hope we both make the finals ??? A few seasons ago I think subi lost our last 8 games ??? Don't get too happy with 8 and 2 as if the coaches and players get happy with that it could bite them on the arse !!! Keep on doing what your doing and it won't be a problem but don't worry about injuries or umpires as you'll be in the shit !!!

I see we don't play each other again so hopefully if all goes to plan we'll meet in the finals ??? All the best for the rest of the season

Chopper thanks for the notes of encouragement. I have never tipped against Swans and never will (even if we lost 19 games in a row). I don't think we will become complacent. Saturday's loss was probably a few weeks in the making.

We may perhaps play for the legitimate WAFL premiership this season, albeit perhaps not in the last game scheduled for the WAFL this year.
