mikeh wrote: Extremely happy with the guys effort today. They took it right up to the premiership favourites and were still in front going into the time on period of the last quarter. The final margin flattered Souths. 20 points didn't reflect the closeness of the contest really. We just had a few half chances around the 16- 17 minute mark when we were in front to score another vital goal and we couldn't take them. Credit to Souths for grabbing the game like the good team that they are, but I think that we gave them an almighty scare.

If the boys can bring that intensity and effort to Bassendean next Saturday we will be celebrating our first 4 points of the season this time next week.

mikeh, I couldn't agree more, a red hot go in most trying conditions.
Gault was terrific feeding or smaller guys and Jesse Turner continues his great form.
I was getting excited at Qtr time thinking we might Kick more than 7 goals for the first time this year, alas our game style that has produced 26 goals in 16 qtrs this years just won't allow it.
In the end it was just the sheer weight of numbers with SF getting the ball inside 50 more often. A Guutsy effort all the same.

Fisher and Anderson are both quality players and with Turner, Riggio and Hampson we are now developing the core of a very good midfield.
The defence led by Notte played very well, really made it tough for the Souths forwards for all but the last 10 minutes.
Kohlmann is a genuine full forward, good contested mark, leads well and a strong accurate kick. He made the most of limited opportunities yesterday. We really have to tweak the plan to try and get 10 goals minimum in games, I thought we were on track to do this at quarter time yesterday but then the match degenerated into a defensive slog and it was likely that the Bulldogs were always going to break the shackles at some stage, although they did leave it till late.
Finally just a comment about Schloithe. He is a very talented and skilled performer who sets up a lot of Souths play. His ducking is a blight on his game and is probably the reason why he had a very limited AFL career. Most of the free kicks he gets in the WAFL would be play on in the AFL. Its unfortunate because I honestly don't think he does it consciously. It has just become part of his automatic way of playing and its a pity. He was the best player on that ground yesterday. I would have liked to have seen his skills on display in the AFL a little more

The umpires won’t care Mike but it was embarrassing yesterday to see a player umpired differently to the other 43 players playing.
The umpires let the game flow which is fair enough in those conditions and didn’t pay frees that were probably there for both teams inside 50 for pushes in the back and Noble getting tackled in a marking contest.
To then pay free kicks twice to a player who everyone knows ducks his head makes no sense

Mikeh, your comments about Schloithe come up just about every week from opposition supporters, reflected my comments from last week, he wont change his tactics until the umpires force him to or he gets a nasty injury, lets hope the umpires do their job and call play on every time he ducks/raises his arm in the tackle. Even without all those frees he's a terrific player.

Mike Schloithe's embarrassing ducking (or throwing his head back when being tackled fairly) is an utter blight on the game...but it would easily be stamped out if the moronic WAFL umpires did not fall for it and stopped paying him free kicks all the time, he would then soon stop that throw the head back rubbish which is just blatant cheating at the end of the day!

Sounds just like Aaron Black. Umpires pet was awarded a free kick yesterday for our player retaliating, handballed to Kietel who goaled to put them in front in the dying minutes. It’s a pity Matt Rogers wasted his shirt front tackle on EF last week is all I can say.

Haha yeah you are not wrong DD.
Black & Nelson (WP), Bolton & Mitchell (CL), Schloithe (SF) are favoured protected species from the WAFL maggots each and every game, Rory O'Brien was another...it is no wonder then most of them won Sandovers when superior players like Tim Kelly, Kyal Horsley & Marlon Pickett didnt!

My point is that all those players are talented and have probably shot themselves in the foot in terms of being drafted into the AFL by their "tactics' if you want to describe them as such. I thought the umpiring at Fremantle yesterday was generally OK compared with some of the other displays I have seen this year. As MO said they did let the game flow.

Anyway BH and others what did you think of Swans performance yesterday?

We played well, 3rd quarter cost us the game, didn’t take our chances with the breeze, a lot of half chances messed up and a bad turnover cost a goal

That’s a very good point and I thought the exact same thing yesterday at our game. Such prolific ball winners on a consistent basis but never come under the radar of AFL clubs. Interesting isn’t it?
