AR I heard Chris Rogers interviewed recently and he was asked why he made the move from WA to VIC and he recalled a time when he was still playing for WA and had just played a Test vs India at the WACA when Matthew Hayden was injured from memory and then Rogers was subsequently dropped when Hayden was fit again, he said he wasnt happy with how he was batting and went down to the WACA nets for a hit as one would expect a WA player to do, the WA one day or 20/20 team happened to be training in the nets (of which Rogers wasnt in at that time) and he was apparently told to piss off as he wasnt a part of that team. He pretty much then decided he wasnt wanted by WA at all.
I dare say that above would sum up the WACA management over the last 20 years or so!

a week or so ago they took care of Victoria
and not too shabbily either
then inexplicably just bend over meekly despite being shown for a day and a half how to do it by the NSW batsmen
is this the WA four day plan?
maybe whoever it was that had the brain spark to select Whiteman as a shield opener can answer

BH -- great post on Rogers, his comments just sum up the problems at the WACA perfectly; no doubt, they would not have liked him either, for being, apparently, a bit of an egg head.

So they both moved to SA where they managed to forge out reasonable careers you could say. In fact Mallett was regarded as Australias best ever off spinner until Nathan Lyon came along.

Good pick up Mike with Mallet & Jenner a couple of Ian Chappell's favourites in the 1970s side.
Another quality leg spinner we produced was Stuart MacGill but we let him go too to bloody NSW! :pinch:

One WA spinner we did miss was former leg spinner Tony Mann who unfortunately passed away overnight after a 7 year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Will always go down in history as the first nightwatchman to score a Test century in 1977 vs India at the WACA his home ground, he played for WA for 20 years.
R.I.P Tony

Interesting comment from JT in the online West today:

Tony Mann, the first nightwatchman to score a Test century and probably the best all-round cricketer produced in WA,...........

He may well be right about being best, but I wonder what "Sticks" Brayshaw, Ken MacLeay and Tom Moody would have to say?

It would also depend on how you define "produced" I guess.

RIP Tony.

I see Hilton Cartwright 235 and young Jake Carder 232 both scored double centuries in the 2nd XI match vs TAS in Perth.
Hopefully Carder can get an opening berth soon in the SS.

Maybe they can keep Carthorse in the 2nd 11 - it appears to be about his mark...and who knows he may even snare a wicket. Bancroft can remain as either 13th/14th man for the test side and not only can young Carder get a go but someone else also.

We have got a SS game starting tomorrow at the WACA against the SACAs.
Phillipe has been dropped but good to see Carder has finally been given a go by the selectors, hopefully the specialist opener can make the most of his chance.
