Great to see young 17yr old Fraser-McGurk debut for Victoria with a 50 first up.....be interesting to see where he goes with his cricket...copped a lot of stick apparently but kept his composure....great to see....

People at the WACA, these days it seems, place too much emphasis on Australian representation. For years, the national selectors have made changes at the end of series after series, only to have the said players never seen again, particularly in the test side. Phillips of Victoria and Cartwright come immediately to mind, but there are many more such players in the country.

Remember some of our batsmen who couldnt get a real long look in back in that era 1989-2008 due to our batting strength through that time (Mark Taylor, Michael Slater, David Boon, Justin Langer, Allan Border, Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Matthew Hayden...) names like-
Jamie Siddons
Brad Hodge
Stuart Law
Jamie Cox
Dene Hills
Michael DiVenuto
Jimmy Maher
Martin Love
David Hussey
etc etc

Others like Darren Lehmann, Greg Blewett, Mike Hussey, Tom Moody, Matthew Elliott, Dean Jones, Simon Katich, Marcus North, Adam Voges, Chris Rogers, Andrew Symonds etc did long apprenticeships before finally getting a decent chance late in their career.

We would kill for that sort of batting depth nowadays!

gee 7- 46.... this is an embarrassment for WA cricket. Maybe its a blessing in disguise as it may convince those in charge that change is desperately needed

Unfortunately the problem is actually with those in charge - they need to be removed before any culture change will be successful

BH good post mate -- we have said it before on here, but I might as well say it again, besides Voges, WA has produced no batsmen of genuine fc standard for 25 years -- you cant count North, Rogers and Gilchrist.

Voges is suppose to be the coach, well he could start by insisting the batsmen go back and across when facing good fast bowlling.

AR I am not sure if you heard Brad Hogg mention in commentary the flaw in Bancroft's set up and technique during the recent Australia A game vs Pakistan?
Another commentator asked Hogg if he had showed Bancroft what it is he is doing wrong and his reply was it is not his job to do so as they have Batting coaches at Australia, WA & the so called Centre Of Excellence in Brisbane!

bease: I did hear his comments, and he was right; his attitude on what should be done about it, as you noted, was quite interesting in relation to the coaches.

I didn't hear what he said but I'm not sure Hoggy is all that well qualified to give batting advice to a top order batsman.

Why do you say that BC?
Hogg originally was just a batsman when chosen for WA back in 1994.

Only because he's remembered more as a wrist spinner and handy lower order batsman rather than a batting technician so I guess that tells us something...in saying that, his Test batting average is the same as Bancroft's so maybe he is qualified after all.
