Cody was clearly told at the outset that as he was under contract and a required player, and that the club would not clear him.
PFC was steadfast in it's approach and was vindicated by the WAFL arbitrator who upheld the integrity of a binding contract.
Bad management was all East Fremantle's making. Making promises to a player who they well knew was under contract. A contract is a contract whether at AFL level or WAFL level.
And you can be assured that EF will not get Leggett next year for nothing. He will still need a clearance and Perth will seek full compensation for a I point player who cannot be replaced except with a probable 7 point player.
As for what or who pissed him off to make him want to leave PFC, the half back thing was never an issue. There may have been a minor grievance or two which amounted to nothing. What has happened over the past couple of years though was misinformed people getting in his ear with ill advised and unrealistic notions.
He was to meet PFC a couple of days ago but postponed that and was to meet the FM today. I have not heard whether or not he attended.
Agree Leggett was contracted to PFC and the arbitrator rightfully agreed...but something clearly went wrong at some point that he is refusing to continue with the PFC which no-one has answered here.
The way I see it Cody indicated to EF that he didn't want to stay at Perth and asked EF if we accommodate his wishes. Whatever we promised (or filled Cody's head with) is irrelevant unless PFC cleared him or the arbitrator granted his wish.
My mistake re the SFA comment. If Cody plays amos or doesn't play at all I dare say that transfer fee next year will be a lot less. That is bad management.
