Considering he was only on $500- wouldn't be hard not to offer more

Cody was clearly told at the outset that as he was under contract and a required player, and that the club would not clear him.
PFC was steadfast in it's approach and was vindicated by the WAFL arbitrator who upheld the integrity of a binding contract.
Bad management was all East Fremantle's making. Making promises to a player who they well knew was under contract. A contract is a contract whether at AFL level or WAFL level.
And you can be assured that EF will not get Leggett next year for nothing. He will still need a clearance and Perth will seek full compensation for a I point player who cannot be replaced except with a probable 7 point player.
As for what or who pissed him off to make him want to leave PFC, the half back thing was never an issue. There may have been a minor grievance or two which amounted to nothing. What has happened over the past couple of years though was misinformed people getting in his ear with ill advised and unrealistic notions.
He was to meet PFC a couple of days ago but postponed that and was to meet the FM today. I have not heard whether or not he attended.

Agree Leggett was contracted to PFC and the arbitrator rightfully agreed...but something clearly went wrong at some point that he is refusing to continue with the PFC which no-one has answered here.
The way I see it Cody indicated to EF that he didn't want to stay at Perth and asked EF if we accommodate his wishes. Whatever we promised (or filled Cody's head with) is irrelevant unless PFC cleared him or the arbitrator granted his wish.
My mistake re the SFA comment. If Cody plays amos or doesn't play at all I dare say that transfer fee next year will be a lot less. That is bad management.

Lets be clear, EF have made an absolute mess of this pursuing a contracted player for two years and being bounced out of arbitration. Likely result a high class WAFL player being absent from comp for a year. WAFL doesn't need this, player doesn't need this and it virtually kills any AFL aspirations he held. well played EF.

Not sure how EFFC got bounced when it was the player taking Mineral Resources to arbitration for breach of contract. If it is true that EFFC had been pursuing the player for 2 years and before the term of the contract has run its natural course he wants out so badly that he is prepared to sit the WAFL season out - some blame ought to be proportioned to Mineral Resources. They thought they had the player hog tied by paperwork but were too stupid to figure out he might just not show up. Options were available to deal with the situation more effectively but Mineral Resources had their head too far up their own arse - not EFFC's fault either so go moan and groan somewhere else.

that is question perth fans need to answer-- has perth actually considerred offerring the man a new improved contract?

people tap players all the time -- one former coach admitted doing it with the taylor brothers and phil lamb in the 1980s; they just happened to be loyal.

The paper said he claimed that the club had failed to pay him bonuses agreed under several contract variations he was paid $500 a game at Perth last year less than the average WAFL match payment of $588 so
Why weren’t Perth paying him the extra $88 if my employer underpaid me I wouldn’t be happy either

greatwhite: very interesting thanks -- there is another big hint to the perth fans about what to do next, if they don't want to listen my little hint above.

perth posters are quick to blame effc for this saga...here it is

cody does not want to play for pfc dito
it is irrelevant why
problem is he under contract
he could approach any wafl club but his choice is ef
ef attempt to negotiate with pfc
pfc not interested...he is under contract so fair enough
leggett chooses to take pfc to arbitration
arbitration rules in pfc favour...fair enough
leggett chooses to play amos rather than play for pfc
loser....wafl footy
2021 leggett out of contract
contracts for many wafl players will no doubt now have a 'get out' clause in them insisted by the player

not sure how effc are at fault here unless of course you are a perth poster
