Speaking of great players SS...I wonder if Callum Sinclair would consider coming back to where it all started as it looks like Hickey has taken the number 1 ruck mantle at the Swans?...just a thought.

Was against Perth LH, was there that day, 6 by qtr time to get his ton in the H & A season then off for the rest of the game. We played finals every or most years we had Heatley, he was a major contributor to that but we didn't get the big one, best opportunity was 95 when a certain Joondy FB coward punched Heater from behind before the first bounce, real class act. After that it was a free for all but we got towelled up sadly.

Of course it was preplanned. I'm not sure the coach was in on it but certainly there would have been a core group of players who would have known as predictably all hell broke loose afterwards so they would have been ready for it. Talking of Ocker, I also remember Leon O'Dwyer taking him out with an elbow off the ball in the 73 GF and he went down like a bag of shit poor bugger.

Yes, Mifka's act was one of the most foul and disgusting things I've seen on a footy field.

Heatley was no tough guy....never tried to be...it wasn't his nature....It would be like knocking out Peter Featherby or Austin Robertson......not tough guys...footy players..... but Heatley kicked 10 in the second-semi final to upset WP......I guess he had to be stopped.

Was it all Mifka? I would like to get the WP coach of the time on to a lie detector test because to me it seemed pre-planned.
Sounds a bit like when Phil Narkle was taken out.

Wrong about Ambrose, right about the rest. Gotcha.

You reckon Heatley wasn't a good player?

He was a champion in the WAFL. And a recruit from Vic ammos rather than VFL/AFL. So no expectations yet two 100 plus goal seasons....almost unthinkable today.

Was on 93/94 goals v SD or P maybe?, did a hamstring, kicked 6 or 7 in the first quarter and came off....legendary stuff.

Andrew Wills........I'll give you that one.......ordinary
I do recall a game where he kicked double digits against Swans when our "wise" coach decided to keep Eaton on him for the entire game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Brad Smith was the last WAFL player to kick 100 in a home & away season. Back in Ockers, Beasley, Ralph and co days it was a 21 game season, now it's 18, so thats 5.55 per game against 4.76 back in the day. No chance of a centurion imho. These days if a forward or mid averages 3 per game he's regarded as a gun.

Just goes to show how good Ocker was to kick 157 in a 21 game season back in 1968 and all the more amazing given we were only a mid table side.

Will we ever get a 100 goal kicker in the WAFL Swan42 or has footy changed too much? I don't see it happening again.

As you know I am unbiased. Imagine there was time when Max George, Mark Olsen, Simon Beasley, Brent Hutton and Austin Robertson, Gary Fathers, Todd Breman, Jason Heatley and Brad Smith actually existed.

I think SD and S might have had the best over the last 50 years or so.
LaH my immediate thought was I am more likely to break the 100m world record.  Personally, I can't see it happening.  There would have to be a drastic change in tactics adopted by the coaches and there is no indication that is likely.  Players seem more content to chip backwards and sidewards for a cheap stat rather than kicking to a contest.  How often during their playing career did we see one-on-one contests between Warren Ralph and Tom Mullooly?   That wouldn't happen these days?

SS that is another factor.  Allowing for the three fewer games, who was the last player to kick over 80 goals in the WAFL?
