yep..agree gtr...conservative governments historically tend to take WA for granted and we only have to look at the GST allocation to see that. although Barnett wasn't jumping up and down too much a few years back when iron ore prices were high and we were getting a big chunk of royalties plus GST calculated 3 years earlier so I guess you can't have it both ways. interesting numbers in today's West on excise of fuel. it seems we're getting nutted there as well but the thing about excise on fuel is that originally it was levied to fund the building and maintenance of roads...that went by the wayside years ago and it now just goes straight into consolidated revenue for dividing up amongst the states so to say WA contributes X amount but only gets back Y amount is a bit of a nonsense.

I think the polls are indicating a pretty substantial swing away from the Govt in WA but that doesn't appear to be enough for them to make concessions as they'll probably only lose a seat or two.

Baz -- the GST is a federal statute which can be re-written by any future Commonwealth government, including a Liberal one.

Until the WA voters give the ALP 10 or so WA MHR seats then the Liberals will keep treating WA with contempt and disdain.

But only after the States agree.

Not much RED flag waving on this subject. Liberal with majority in lower house & possible 30 in senate. Labor 27, Greens 4, Xenothon 1, Hansen 1, Hinch 1, Lambie 1. If Libs get independent support they can give Speakers job to Lambie.. Then have majority in BOTH houses. The people have spoken.

now that might be fun LS...Lambie as President of the Senate and Katter as Speaker in the House of Reps....it would be an even bigger circus than usual. :-)

Nothing could be as disreputable as when Bronwyn Bishop was speaker.
