Nothing stopping you from retraining DD or perhaps even volunteering to don PPE to empty a few bed pans or change a few mollycares mate......small price to pay to get those borders open and life back to normality.....as for myself coming back to help.....too busy swabbing and vaccinating here mate.....not mining boom money,  but way better then working double shifts  on  the many under staffed wards at  the local hospital here for fudge all......good luck with the retraining mate.

Not sure it's as bad as you say $$$ Freezin. I've been told there is good money to be made, if you do a double shift you get paid for 3 shifts. If only my industry was so rewarding, sadly not and I can imagine the outrage if my industry was awarded a much need pay rise. Sadly it doesn't come under any awards and when I complain about it I get a dead bat response.

McGowan is just using the borders as a political football to protect himself and his party leading up to the election. Not only that he keeps shifting the goal posts. He is taking the piss and laughing at how dumb and gullible West Australians are.

The fact is this bloke and the useless Roger Cook have FAILED the hospital system miserably. What are they doing about it? What they should be doing is going all out on a national and international recruiting campaign to entice doctors and nurses to WA and offer incentives such as fully paid (Free) hotel quarantine, relocation costs and maybe 50% of first 6 months rent paid in exchange for a minimum 3 year commitment.

Get the bloody doctors and nurses in to open up all wards and all beds so we can open our borders and get back to normal life. Stop fucken giving these soft cocks an excuse to feel safe and not go and get the jab. Are you really that useless Mark?
Pretty much spot on and how I see it.

Apparently 80% of WA people still support closed borders even as NSW opens up to the world, little wonder we have hopeless low Vax rates, sounds like everyones happy to spend the next 30 years locked into Carousel Shopping Center.

Mate sounds like you need to retrain then and many others in your industry....heard  a rumour there are a few double shifts going on the frontline Health sector....feel free to pop down to Fiona Stanley or Charlie's for a double shift in their ICU then,   I am sure they will appreciate the help....good way to lose weight too wearing PPE for 16-24 hours....though I'd rather be hit by a dead bat TBH.....those Iron lungs are a beggar to regulate as well......

Sounds like you’re the one not happy with his chosen career. Maybe you need to train for another career, or maybe the money is too good to pass up.

Paul Murray has pretty much summed up McGowan and seen right through him.

DD, you have no idea what the frontline Health worker does or what skills are needed to work efficiently in  COVID areas like ED or ICU.....your comment of simply find more bloody nurses and doctors to work the wards so "normality" can be restored is what dismayed me the most....Joe Public ignorants like you are what makes my job and other frontline Health professionals so frustrating.... good luck for your search for more doctors and nurses mate....they aren't out there....

Settle down princess don’t get your knickers in a twist. I’m not saying anything different to the bleeding obvious that everyone else is saying in this state. But maybe I should excuse your ignorance since you are so far out of the loop over there.

Sooner or later our borders have to open, then the shit will hit the fan but at least workers can come into WA. RIO TINTO just announced they are decreasing production of iron ore due to worker shortage, restaurants are closing because they can’t get staff, fruit growers are having to dump their harvest because they got no one to pick it. Optus Stadium had a hard time finding enough staff to open up all the food and beverage outlets during the finals.

You can’t tell me there isn’t 10,000 healthcare worker’s overseas that wouldn’t jump at the chance to enter Australia on a work visa and enter the system after some training to get them up to scratch to our standards and earn what is life changing money for them.

They can do the shit jobs you go on about and release the experienced experts like your good self to do the more critical work.

DD love your logic mate....lets fatten WA's health sector coffers with overseas  workers.....and deplete the sectors where they are coming from...bit of Subi logic there mate.....white goods and all that...I really don't think you get it, despite living in WA.....there is a world wide shortage mate.....UK is farked, has been for decades, NZ is farked, that's  why the NZ PM has been like McGoo super vigilant with border closures, WA has been farked for years, as have other states. Plenty of Kiwi's flock over to NSW, WA and QLD rural hospitals, looking to make a quick buck.....it's simply covering the ulcer with a bandaid, without treating the infection. Years of Hospital managements, relying on the good will of their staff, stretching out their workload with skeleton, just to save a few bucks.....middle management has been the curse of many a Health sectors frontline workers.....too may chiefs on stupid wages, who do fark all but carry clipboards and  set targets ,and not enough indians at the coalface to meet those targets.....been like that for decades......

To get registered in popular destinations like Aust, NZ and UK, it is a myriad of hoops to jump through  now and can very frustrating and lengthy.. Pop into your local rest home mate, they are predominantly staffed by qualified nurses from overseas, like Africa, India, Bangladesh, Phillipines etc.....all were ICU, ED, CCU etc trained back home, but because English isn't their primary language, registration guidelines so tight ,they can't be arsed or just given up  jumping through all the hoops..... they are  still earning good money in a lesser role compared to what they earnt  and did back home, just not in their chosen area......all about family for these folk, getting family over for a better life or sending money back to family for a better life.

The borders will open as vaccination rates rise, the new norm I reckon will be ED waits rising significantly, ramping getting worse, GP appointments getting harder and harder to get, surgery waiting lists getting longer and longer.....hospitals will be fixated with ensuring COVID protocols are tight, if an outbreak occurs, especially with folk coming from overseas......be interesting to see if COVID passports will help minimise this, but no hospital will ethically be allowed  to turn away an unvaccinated individual who is unwell.......just the amount of care needed to look after them will just deplete the already depleted services......but hey if McGoo finds 10 000 workers, then well done him, just don't go and visit the places where he is getting them from, because if you  do  and you get sick, you may be getting looked after by a depleted health sector, crying out for staff.

Freeze enormous respect for you and others on the health front line, and I hear what you say regarding the hoops for health workers trying to get into the system. I had a pre-procedure appointment at Northam hospital yesterday with a final year nursing student, just one semester to complete, she was terrific, organised and thorough, but when I mentioned the system is crying out for more nurses she said it's still a really onerous process to get a job, and thats from a locally trained nurse. She said many friends have said they have applied several times to get positions. That sounds crazy!! ok they wont be doing the specialised stuff as graduate nurses but surely the more there are at the base of the pyramid means the more experienced ones can be freed up to do what they are qualified to do and less of the grunt stuff?
