Mate...McGoo is like every other pollie who takes the advice from whomever makes him look good and is politically expedient. Forget about the science or what's best for the people, they'll go with whatever is good for them.  McGoo is buying time as he knows that if an outbreak occurs, our health system is currently so fragile it will be over run given the code yellows and ambulance ramping we're seeing.  So he'll do whatever it takes to stop that from happening until a vaccine is fully rolled out as a widespread outbreak at the moment is a political death sentence.

Worked in Gov basically since I was 17 and can say 100% percent the hierachy are all about protecting their own arses keeping the teflon coating up when something goes wrong.

Absolutely bizarre comment, you are talking about a backward third world country with 1 billion people,literally 1000s of cases - most of whom have zero medical coverage and live on 1 buck a week, cant or don't wash hands and have basic reading and writing skills, Covid was always going to spread like wild fire there, Indians are totally disrgansied spend most of their time shouting at each and other operate on a caste system.

If it wasnt for the Christian run hospitals their probably wouldnt be any. Like Holy Family Hospital featured on the news the other night.

The reason they burn people is because it is a requirement of the Hindu Faith.

Then there's Perth with 1 single case, a Medicare System, 100s of ICU beds, where a truck driver earns $160K a year dumping iron ore.

Whats wrong with parents keeping a track of kids vax history if they wish, seems wise to me, no different to having a diabetic alert band on.

I think we would all agree that international strategies for managing incoming travelers is a Federal responsibility. Not forgetting quarantine I just read that travelers returning must have negative test 72 hours BEFORE boarding the flight.

So the idiot that is Home Affairs minister and his side kick the PM really are the root cause of the issues occurring with our sub continent problem and need to be held to account.

All fair points Grump but how should they stop Australian citizens returning from covid hotspots? The bloke who got infected the other day spent 4 months in India long before it was hell on earth and he received permission to attend his own wedding. These days he wouldn't get approval but obviously things have changed since then so what's the answer?

If you leave here to and live in another country for an extended period then whilst you maybe an Australian citizen then you live or die by that choice in the current situation and that is what needs to be understood here! Many of these folk have gone home to live but now that it is a bit frightening they want US (the  Australian Government to bail them out), sorry you made a decision.

As for the short term returns for weddings etc the same applies, you made a decision with the full knowledge that you destination was in the poo and it was moving onto a diarrhea status. It is like folk who complain when the fly into NSW and oops there is a breakout there, into quarantine you go! Common sense says that traveler beware!  

The authority that gives the permission is the ones that need to be held to account!
Yes we are the lucky country but we need to make our own luck by exercising some control and the federal process has lost control!

Just as a qualification on the above. my son has lived in London (despite my advice, anything above Hadrians wall would have been more acceptable) for 7 years. He wants to come home but understands that he cannot until he is vaccinated, the UK has their shit together and Australia decides it ok for him to come and what conditions he has to face, oh and the visit will be just to catch up with family and friends, he has made a life and profession over there!

A-It's not an alert band. It's a technology that's embedded under the skin that leaves a permanent record of a part of your history.
B-There is a probability that this kind of technology could be misused by governments for means that are slightly ambiguous - let's say like lockdown for 1 case of covid. I mean, they've never used the "you must comply for your own safety" line before.
C-Bill Gates is in the business of vaccines for profit. The more people that take the vaccine, the more money he makes. Of course he wants to make sure that everybody has had a vaccine. Although some may consider that a conflict of interest.

It's not what I want for your children or grandchildren or anybody else actually.

 

A. No, not an alert band, its a more high tech alternative that is better than an alert band, that cant come off be lost or otherwise, no problem there, unless you are a paranoid nut job.

B. yes it could be miss used, but then so can you info that the ATO holds , the WA Police holds and the WA health Department currently holds as well as a myriad of other orgs, but guess what it rarely if ever happens.

c, I have heard these nut job theories about Bill Gates before, fair dinkum mate they are up there with the Q and Non wackos that supported Trump, Bill Gates has made billions via IT, why would he bother doing this giant global conspiracy  to make money from Vaccines, there is not a shred of evidence to support it. In fact the Bill Gates foundation provides funding for vaccines for preventable diseases in the third world.

D, Israel are smart operators, they were light years ahead on their vax roll out way ahead of anyone else, given they have vaccinated around 50% plus of their population , yes they have a Green Pass that allows those with it a great deal more freedom and allows businesses to operate freely it also allows those vaccinated to mix with others who are also vaccinated in total freedom and safety. Bloody smart if you ask me the sooner we have a like system the better.
