I think Peter Sumich is a strong character with a strong self belief and probably doesn’t fit the mould of what others in the industry see as someone who’s taken the traditional path. I’ve got no doubt if he had done a few years in Melbourne as an assistant coach under a highly rated Victorian, he would have had a senior gig somewhere by now, possibly in Melbourne.

Chris Fagan doesn’t fit the mould but because he was highly rated at Hawthorn under Clarkson his name came up as ideal for Brisbane. Sumich has a wealth of experience both as player and coach and I think he handles himself well in the media and has good established relationships in the media if given the chance will not be so defensive as Ross Lyon was.

For me Ross Lyon didn’t rate the media over here but had a love affair with the Melbourne media in particular the Fox Footy boys. I remember in Ross’s first couple of years at Fremantle he had a regular 5 min stint on 6PR on a Monday or Tuesday night but that stopped after the first couple of years.

Suma will not only be a great coach IMO he will bring members back, members and supporters will fill the stadium and he will prove to be far more marketable for Fremantle and they will find more corporate support than they ever have. In the last couple of years Ross Lyon became a public relations liability..

I think it is more where they grew up than who they played for TOO.
Worsfold grew up around Freo (went to South Fremantle SHS) and Sumich in Spearwood whilst Longmuir came from Koorda in the wheatbelt country.

Yep spot on, Sumich is a generational Fremantle football person, with extensive links through sport, business, ethnic community and family throughout the district

Sumich is also a West Coast legend and the already impatient and frustrated supporters will turn on him quickly. And that squad doesn’t look exactly ripe for success especially if BradHill is gone

Fremantle will get Tim Kelly. WC can’t satisfy Geelong like Fremantle will be able to.

DD more to satisfaction than money, dont think Tim is totally focused on the dollars, he will get plenty where ever he goes, he's driven by family wanting to return and by wanting to play finals. He wont get finals anytime soon at Freo but he will at the Weags.

SS its not about what Tim wants in terms of dollars, both WA clubs can accommodate him I'm sure but it's about satisfying Geelong and he will want to do the right thing by them. And Fremantle WILL PLAY FINALS next year under Peter Sumich. ;) :)

Mate I hope your right about Freo, finals and Suma, but WC are far and away a better organised and better run club than Freo, most of the decisions they make about recruiting and player management since the drug tainted days of the 90's & early norties are first class, lets hope a new Freo CEO and Coach can reverse that fact.

I just read that Connor Blakely is also considering moving on from Freo...what a shambles. No coach, no CEO, players leaving or wanting out including F&B's....not exactly a destination club that's for sure.

After the club just signed him on for 3 more years in July after his track record of injuries and lying to the club he's crook then fucks off down south because the swell is up, I would fuck him off and say you will go to the club that gives us the best deal. How's Gold Coast sound? He can go surfing every day in between cyclones and play in front of 10 - 15,000 every week. We don't need blokes like that.

Interesting that Sumich came out and made some disparaging comments about WCE today. You wouldn't think the Freo hierarchy would be too pleased that a potential coach gets into a public slanging much about a rival club.
