The following came to me via an email from a friend who is a one-eyed East Perth supporter and for some reason won't post on this Forum. I am only passing it on.

So he (Keitel) has gone and in the end East Perth should be happy about it if they are concerned about integrity, loyalty and respect.

Three days before his pre-planned, unannounced and sneaky defection from East Perth, he attended their pre-season training camp where no doubt game plans and other internal club secrets were revealed and discussed to the supposed loyal attendees. He sat there, as one of East Perth’s chosen 40, knowing that he wasn’t going to be there in a few days time.

East Perth or someone inside the club are being blamed for his non-selection at two national drafts by 18 AFL clubs. Remember he was a red-hot favourite West Aussie (according to some) to be drafted, expected to go top 10 etc… so obviously they found something to their disliking. All 18 Clubs.

So he gets sneakily shopped by his mum or uncle or manager or whoever and West Perth answers the call by promising him the best opportunity to get drafted under their wing.

So the plan is hatched “Sneaky, stealthy plan 19” we’ll call it, named in honour of his 19th birthday.

The East Perth club, according to today’s paper, had developed him from the age of 14 and he was on a well-established pathway to league football if you are good enough “Josh Smith’s successor” perhaps? Many before him have travelled this same path. Alas this appears not good enough for him and/or those that represent him. They think things were not progressing with enough speed and someone with the talent that he and his representatives think he has should be fast-pathed, preferably (last season) into league football.

So quite rightly, East Perth Football Club, unable to recruit outside its zone puts up an argument to keep one of its own from defecting. But alas the legislation, be it unethical or otherwise, is there in black and white.

But would we really want to keep him now all is said and done? Would you like to go to battle or be fighting in the trenches with someone that you know wants to be on the other side and plotting to do so while he’s there?

Now it’s up to West Perth to honour all the promises they have given him, the key to the promised land, the pathway to AFL. Perhaps he can get around West Perth’s first 22 and let them know he’s there and one of them will soon be stepping aside for the next big thing.

I have never seen this kid play but has it never entered the minds of East Perth supporters that maybe if he had been given opportunities at league level last seaon he may have had a better chance of being drafted? And the reason why he didn't get these opportunities? Please enlighten me. Why blame young players who seek opportunities elsewhere because their pathway is blocked by AFL reserves players in their own club.

Bloody rich East Perth mentioning anything about "Sneaky underhanded plan 19's" given the treachery Howson committed after attending WAFL club President meetings over the alignments Pretending to be united then scurrying off like a dirty cheese rat & signing his own alignment deal !!!

Perhaps the kid only followed his ex-President's example

To mikeh

Neither have I seen him play Mike, so I can't answer your question. Maybe someone who saw him every week can.

If his path was blocked by AFL Reserves players (and I mean AFL, not WAFL players), why blame East Perth? All other teams supporters keep telling us that West Coast pick the East Perth League team, not East Perth. Blame them for him not playing League.

Who should EP have left out of their team last year Mike so Keitel could play?

about ten players are currently playing at wafl clubs thinking that they are being kept out by afl reserves players.haere is my assestment of them

League Standard
SF Brock Higgins
EF Danny chartres,Boston Williamson
Sd jackson Slater

Depth/Reserves players
Perth Rowan Brooks,Ashley Boyes,Blake Borrett
EF julian Locantro
SD stephen Wityk,Tony Kamaleris
WP Chris Franklin

What's the point. You can blame the alignment for not getting a league game at East Perth but most of these players have not become automatic league selections at their new clubs.

Mikeh, he was training with the league group regularly last season along with a couple of other Colts. He was assessed as not being ready both physically and mentally for reserves let alone league. At training with the colts he was sullen and quite petulant when he did not get his own way, kick it to me attitude and then did a richo if it wasn't.

He had a few run ins with the coach at the time, who tried to get him to understand what was required at the next level in the WAFL. The coach was a hard person but did a better than average job, in my opinion.

He was given the support to develop but when called upon in the games that mattered let himself and us down with his attitude.

As an aside, Clayton Giblett was given a few ressies games and has played league, albeit one game and he is the benchmark for the boys to follow. Great attitude, very good commitment to the game and club and if the boy had shown some of his characteristics then perhaps he might of got a game at the next level.

The boy was told all of the issues by EP, the AFL recruiters and by others but they and I all obviously missed the point, he is the next big thing!

C22 I will only speak about the two you mentioned at Swans. I am sure they were aware when they moved to Swans that if they performed they would be given the opportunity to play league footy for Swans.

With respect to your comment that they haven't become automatic league selections diverts from the fact that SO MANY thought that their pathway to league selection at the club formerly known as East Perth was limited by the host club alignment.

I defer to your vastly superior knowledge of the "East Perth" colts' players. Perhaps by moving to West Perth he will realise that there are areas which he needs to address. More generally perhaps we need to move away from the concept that the ultimate is to be drafted at 18 and if one doesn't achieve that objective then all is lost.
