didn't realise Trops had walked out on Perth so soon DF? ;) .........perhaps the attraction of getting an easy league game wasn't worth it in the end mate.....especially when the only thing of offer for all his herculean efforts is a wooden spoon ......

Good to see four of the five boys reported on Saturday either got off or copped a reprimand.

Sticks still to learn his fate though. Maybe he should plead guilty so the tribunal chairman can over rule him and let him off.

Larry Bird wrote: Yes similar problem at EP there is no alternative board or even board member to vote for. I have never heard a coach say that after a game about there team. Very interesting talking to some of the guys from the Eagles that moved from Perth. Also some of the guys that went to Perth from EP over the last five years. Who are the board members at Perth if I may ask and what is their background, are they Perth people.

I'm not quite sure how that (a ticket) would work given that the Directors retire in rotation with roughly half one year and the rest the following year.
There is no-one on the Board with the football nouse to act as Director of Football so who does the President choose for the job?
He could co-opt someone but that would depend on the number of Directors allowed or whether he could dump someone to make room.
The lack of elections is of concern, however, I'm not sure there are too many capable candidates around the Club.
Don't get me wrong we have some wonderful volunteers.
It has become practice for the President to discourage elections starting with Mr Matthews.
The problem with that is that you end up with autocratic rule as the mates are gathered around.
At our club we have had ineffective Directors for years.
I cannot recall our previous football director being seen much at games.
Show me the Directors that attend away games.
Given no lunch for most of them at away games.
A consortium of supporters/members need to find someone (the right President) and then assist with setting out what the board needs in the way of Directors portfolios and people to fill them.
Bandy together and form a committee of members hell bent on finding the right Board.

There is no direct relationship between my comments below and the Perth Football Club as I do not have the knowledge of Perth to comment nor should they be construed as gratuitous toward Perth and its supporters. What the WAFL competition needs is for all G7 clubs to have a strong following and we may yet be able to overcome the devils incarnate's prostitution of the WAFL competition.

A board or committee of any club needs to be filled with people who are interested in the job to improve the club not there for the glory or self-promotion. What it needs is for all members of that board to be able to robustly discuss the issue and decide based on the merits of the issue and not on personalities. The worst thing for a board is to be full of YES or NO people. Also, once the decision is made then the board needs to get behind the decision.

Having had at least one coach who was more interested in self-promotion than what was best for the club at Swans, you also need a coach who is committed to doing the best for the club. That doesn't preclude the person having ambitions to coach in the AFL but his primary consideration should be what is best for the short and long term future of the club.

I'm sure all boards and coaches do it for the right reasons, especially in the WAFL. Can't imagine what glory you would be talking about, in particular being on a WAFL board.

Larry, none of them actually elected by members. All were either elected unopposed or, moreso, co-opted whenever a vacancy has occurred. Whenever anyone has nominated for the Board they have generally been convinced or coerced to withdraw the nomination.

It really is a sad indictment that the club has not been able to find and encourage persons of strong presence, leadership, business profile and football savvy to put their hand up and get involved.

And it should not be for personal glory but to be involved in making the club successful and sustainable both on and off the field.
