Gotta love the WAFL. The least successful team in the league - possibly ever - loses two key players to much stronger clubs. When he was drafted Hunter said publicly how grateful he was for the club's support during two extended rehabs. Guess that gratitude wore off. No doubt we will have TT on here telling us that it had nothing to do with money or success,, we just didn't work hard enough.

I have proposed before a weighting system to stop top clubs poaching from bottom clubs. You average out teams' ladder positions over 5 years. That would have Perth 9th and EF and C anywhere from 1-4. You then add points based on the difference in position. So, if C were, say, 3rd over 5 years and P 9th, Hunter would be a 16 point player - the usual 10, plus an extra 6 for each spot on the ladder. Similarly, there would be a weighting for transfer fee. 1-2 ladder spots above, 25% extra, 3-4 spots 50%, 5-6 75%, and anything over that double. So assuming Hunter's transfer fee would normally be $15k, it would be adjusted to $26,250. The system would operate quite fairly, in that another struggling team could still recruit quality players. If Hunter went to the team that finished 8th across the last 5 years, he would cost only 11 points and $18,750. Hopefully it would stop strong clubs from targeting players from weak clubs, and at least give weak clubs some better compensation.

Have we been asleep at the wheel here. First Avery and now Hunter. I assume the new coach and football manager are on leave while this is happening. One of the first things Stone said was that we must retain our best players and also recruit aggressively, especially quick players who can cover the big WAFL grounds.
I know that Hunter is not an out as such but he would surely have been a key cog for next year if his fitness held up. Anyway another season coming up where we must recruit some top shelf players from somewhere, only just to remain at this year’s level.

I also question the integrity of these 2 players. They have both had long term injuries and the club has surely
been assisting them with recovery as quick as possible.I’d love to know Hunter’s reason in particular for leaving.

Surprised to see Hunter on our list. Coming off an ACL and back surgery the club must be confident that our medical and S&C team can get him right and on the park regularly.

In regard to the WAFL points system, everyone knows it’s only there for show and has no real impact on clubs when it comes to game day. 10 points or 16 points wouldn’t make a difference.

And then WC and Peel can do what they want if they have lots of AFl players available for WAFL duties.

I don't suppose Hunter is managed by Peos? I can only hope we have some master recruiting plan we are waiting to unleash. SF have already got Jones and Tabener (though I have to say I would not be happy if we picked up Tabener). SD have Trew. WP and S have named a couple. We are apparently not in the running for Ethan Hughes. All we have done so far is elevated a few colts - though, strangely, not Moore and Warren. So we need at least 2 A graders to cover our losses and a minimum of 5 mature above average players just to have a chance of winning a half dozen games. I don't think it can be done.

What possie did he play Ted? His record looks very spasmodic.

Does anyone think Hall (the one that plays in the backline) could fill Avery's shoes? Similar height and Weight - infact Hall 2cms taller
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Very talented.

Grocott is no great loss. I just thought it was strange that he was back on the list for about a week before going off again. Avery is 190cm, high possession, intercept mark, fast, penetrating kick. In other words, irreplaceable.
