Surprised Langlands not there PD.
I am also thinking maybe throwing Hunter to FF Rodgers to a flank or picket.
can someone confirm E Taylor was around on Friday?

Hunter dropped a few marks he should have taken last Friday, we better temper our expectations a little and just let him find his feet and confidence in the reserves first. Elijah Taylor wasn't there and been missing for the whole week, illness I was told. He is a long way off and I think he has a lot to work through before he is ready to grace the football field again.

Connor McPartland has been in outstanding form in both scratch matches and looks set for a big season and he has been finding the goals. Jack Richardson has been the outstanding forward in both games. Oscar Bird has shown flashes up forward as has Hitchcock. I like the look of Meloncelli, a youngster from the colts and another player who played reserves last year has stood out for me is Brodie Gray (not Brady Grey). Looks like a smooth mover and user of the ball.

Langlands was more prominent on Friday, probably because i wasn't able to recognize him the previous week. Our strength will be our midfield and we have plenty of tallish options to run through down back. I think there will be an even spread of goal kickers rather than anyone standing out like McDonald did last year.

Hunter knows how to find space and lead well.
Finding separation and leading well will help him hang on to his marks. I am expecting our delivery to be pretty good this year.
Hunter also has the added bonus of having ruck skills.
Don't be surprised if he figures in round 1 thinking.
There is a lot to like about Zac Meloncelli and I would expect him to push for a spot early.
He had an outstanding year last year.
I would have thought Langlands would be first 22 for round 1 imho.
Yes plenty of depth to keep pressure on spots in the ones.

The obvious one you’ve missed is Coniglio. He was outstanding last season and looked good on Friday night.
I think we can all forget about E.Taylor having any positive influence.

Agree about Coniglo. There is Clark and Clarke. I think Clarke is earmarked for league.  Davis in a back pocket maybe. And then there is Edmonds. Switch Edmonds for Taylor on the wing. Cary is line ball. And someone has to support Eyres in the ruck. So that might suggest Hunter is given a go.

I reckon this looks a pretty competitive side. I like it. Would love to see Nyika John debut round 1. He deserves it.

As others have said, Cogs would have to come in and suspect Taylor isn't going to be a started round one.

I would have Nicholas or Davis comfortably ahead of John. Don't agree with Stubbs in the middle, not when you've got Langlands, Smith, Byrne, Masten, Grey, Colledge, Fisher, McPartland, Clarke or even Meloncelli. Cary has never really grabbed me, but I get the impression he's one of those players that the coaches really like, so I'd expect him to be in the league side.

Does anyone know what is really happening with Taylor? We hear he's back, then he's gone, then he's back and raring to go, now he's said to be gone and unlikely to have any impact. I'll have to go to a pre-season game to find out for myself. He would certainly add something to the team, maybe even a Michael Bennell type full forward. He is a similar height to Bennell.

Taylor's around. He's been ill I've been told. Maybe got a sore back as well. He said himself he's been training with the rehab group. First intraclub he just seemed to be running/walking laps around the boundary. You'd reckon he'll start in the reserves when ready and go from there.

I must admit, I completely forgot about Davis when listing the team. I will have him instead of Clark. Langlands, Bird or any of the other recruits haven't impressed me that much, with the exception of Jye Clark.  I also think Regan Clarke deserves a spot but I can't fit him in. As for Gogs - yeah I agree he did a good job last year but as a back pocket player I simply don't think he is better than any of the others.  Johns has been in great form and is another wing option or will give us some run out of defence along with Davis.

I still think the FF position is the concern and Rogers is our best option to crash and bash pack. But with Jones down there as well at least we have some marking options.
