Would Harris have been sacked if Claremont had won the flag?

froth: apparently, the plan was to let him do an extra year if he had won it; longer term they would have still wanted him out.

TOO’s mate of the Board said the opposite lol

Either way if the coach has the support of the players and is getting results like making a GF and losing narrowly then it seems a very odd decision to remove the coach.

If the Board wanted to move him on because they didn’t feel they had enough influence on how Harris coached the team, then the Board needs to understand their role - run a a financially strong football club that is able to provide the football department with the necessary resources to be successful.

Prescott was released by GC on 24 August with 4 other assistant coaches so I think the Board had started the process well before the GF and wouldn’t be surprised if Prescott had signed on too. Why we have gone back to a previous coach who hasn’t provided a flag in 3 GF appearances is questionable when several other ex-AFL assistants are available

2021 will be an interesting year for the Tigers which will go one of two ways - a flag and the Board were correct, anything less and the Boards heads will be in the guillotine.

I never said anything about what the board would do if we'd won the grand final Tiger Tales not sure where you get that from. And I never said the board was trying to influence how the team was selected or coached, just that they hadn't been in agreement with Harris's ways, they let him do it his way though, but come new contract time they've gone their way.

Apologies TOO it’s tough sifting through the waffle of all the over opinionated Perth posters

As an outsider it does seem very odd given the club improved its position on the ladder every year under Harris including a narrow GF loss. Has Povey actually come out and given reasons for the sacking to members and supporters?

the somewhat controversial part, at least for me, is not the sacking, rather, it is his replacement. As I have said, both John Todd and Ken Armstrong were treated much more harshly in the seventies.

Quite a turn up - I'd heard Sumich was rated highly in the process

Yes, Prescott is a previous coach. But he can be regarded as a completely new coach in a way also. He's had 13 seasons as an Afl assistant since his last season of WAFL, that will have influenced him massively I would say. And when he was previously Claremont coach he had played with a lot of the playing group, he will have a different relationship with this bunch. Don't agree that anything less than a premiership would be a failure, footy isn't as simple as that, we all know that.
