Not sure why it is observed in WA anyway. Has about as much to do with WA as Thanksgiving does to Australia.

Absolutely ridiculous, headline grabbing from that imbecile major, he hasn't been in the media for a while. Setting back this country 50 years, this country like all countries have dark pasts, move on as one!!!!

at risk of being labelled racist or anything else by the looney left...I find it amazing just how far we bend over backwards not to offend less than 3% of the population.

And therein is confirmation that you have agreed with Mike. The landing on the 26th January HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Western Australia or had anything to do with New Holland in 1788. The date that s relevant to Australia is January 1st.

Swan, a mind reader you're not. I thought you were more intelligent, but guess I was wrong. This is is an AUSTRALIAN day recognizing a very important event. Just because the twit in Freo wants to grandstand with a ridiculous proposal, we don't have to jump on board. As one radio talkback caller on PR said, perhaps we had better cancel Christmas for religious reasons, Easter for religious reasons and perhaps Anzac Day so we don't insult the Turkish people. Definitely sick of the self righteous lefty minority that is destroying the Aussie way of life FFS! Bring on Donald and Pauline.

I can put up with Australia Day because of the imperial British connexion; but it is true, it is NSW day when all is said and done. The action of the mayor leaves a lot to be desired, people need to vote him out of office.

Perhaps you might explain Emperor Barnett's rationale for changing the ame of Foundation Day?

as I said the landing in 1788 has nothing to do with Australia. January 1st is the relevant date to celebrate Australia Day. What exactly is the Aussie Way? Is it a celebration of the White Australia policy? I am sure you will post the result of the next time the Mayor faces an election.

The old chestnut about Oz Day being NSW day is BS...

We all know it marks the founding of the Sydney Cove settlement, and thats the whole point, it was the First settlement in Australia ,it predates the Swan River settlelmemt by decades, once we Federated that relevance became poignant as it was the first settlement in the Federation. As for Federation Day, its never ever been marked or celebrated , in 2001 they tried to fire it up for the centenary and even then sfa people were interested, it doesnt help its in new years day when people cbf.

As for WA we have WA Day , but it ehould never of been changed from Foundation Day to placate the blackfellas.
