Yep and From the Day Capt Phillip arrived Australia became multicultural, his fleet had English, Scots, Irish, Jews, Africans and Chinese on board, Australia was one race prior to that!

It has always annoyed me how the 'British' in this country become 'Australians' but the ethnic minorities are allowed to keep their identities -- Chinese, Italian, whatever the case may be. Ironically, when some of the ethnic minorities refer to 'Australians', they often use the term the Anglo-Saxons, which of course is correct.

Not surprised one bit by this latest stunt by freo Council. Leave Australia day alone, it is simply a day to recognize a significant event in Australia's history. if you don't agree with it then don't participate, just enjoy the day off with your family and friends, don't seek to impose your own beliefs on others, that is contrary to the Australian way of life. If you want to celebrate or support anything at all then do so in an orderly safe and respectful way, but don't stop me from supporting or participating in anything that I choose to do.

This country was created and developed by numerous waves of immigration, my own mob were from Scotland and Wales, lets not forget that the first immigrants arrived on our soil somewhere between 40 & 60,000 years ago via the Indonesian islands, these people became the many Aboriginal tribes of what became known as Australia.

I'm sick of watching our people turning into young Yanks, politically correct whimps and apologetic sycophants. People my age were born and lived in the best years of time. Well said 58shark. This country started going down the gurgler in the late 80's. And sad to say, will not be improving any time soon unfortunately! I too was lucky enough to spend some of my life in the good days, but sadly they are now gone.

wag are you suggesting that is another reason why one should dislike the Eagles?

For all the sanctimonious comments about the importance of 26th January, may I point out that we have NOT ALWAYS celebrated Australia Day on the 26th January in Western Australia. I too am old enough to remember that there was a long week end near the end of January; most times the Australia Day Public Holiday was NOT on the 26th January.

Yeah , big deal - so am I - it actually wasn't that long ago it was moved to the actual day for the public holiday to be held, previously it was preferred by the unions that a long weekend be held with the day being the closest Monday to the actual 26th for the day off, HOWEVER Australia Day itself was always the 26th.
