Seems to me the problem is most aged care workers are casuals and most are foreigners, some of them maybe not even permanent residents. They are trying to establish themselves and work is vital to their economical survival and future.

Problem is very few locals want the work...its all immigrant labour from 3rd world.

PM looks like he's admitting Palmer will get his exemption via court

"The Prime Minister has escalated his dispute with Mark McGowan over Western Australia's hard border closure, warning the Premier his "all-or-nothing approach" will "highly likely" fall foul of the constitution.

Businessman Clive Palmer's legal challenge to bring down the hard border is being heard in the Federal Court this week, before heading to the High Court later this year.

Scott Morrison has defended the Commonwealth's decision to join Mr Palmer's action."

but then

Federal Attorney-General Christian Porter insisted the Commonwealth was not "siding" with Mr Palmer.

Here they are paying minimal wages to staff that aren't properly trained and afraid to complain due to their recent migration into the country with very suspect nursing qualifications, this last fact has been born out by a private contract that took over one of the facilities where the staff were sent home or bailed.

They pay no taxes, rates or any other costs that other business are forced to pay and then they have the temerity to ask the federal government to bail them out, an absolute disgrace from a sector whose track record is deplorable!

Mate, all sorts of orgs run old peoples homes, Freemasons run heaps, Silver Chain in-fact most are run by big medical insurance companies, like Bupa etc, they are all paid the same allowance per head by the Feds, and are all subject to the same regs.

Staff are all subject to regulations as well, which say most are not required to be trained medically and all subject to same rates of pay which are all subject to award rates, try finding someone local willing to do that difficult work for those rates.

Bottom line is a heap more money will have to be invested in the sector.

Mate I would be very surprised If the HCA gives Palmer the 100% Green Light, and I can tell you my word from the WA State Solictors Office is our case is solid.

Bazz I dont know the relevant content of the constitution, but it would need to differentiate between a border closed between 2 or 3 states and a state closing it's border to all other states and territories, if it doesn't then we should be ok as SA NT Qld & NSW all have closed borders with various other states.

Bazza I do realise that but when sorting through the Vic issue it was surprising that the church run ones had a significant issue.
