Southerner this looks a lot like 1984-85.
Cpatain has to much say on who does and does not play.
We could have up to 6 retirements in the next two years.

BH it has been alleged that both the coach +Captain.During last weeks preparation for this test.
Both flew to the east coast to see band.Cold Play live. And lost two days in the teams preparation??
Jaiswal is as good as any Indian batsman we have ,ever seen.
5-0 Indian whitewash on the cards
GTR it is bloody well showing too as Cummins has looked well short of a gallop in horse racing terms.
Fancy your preparation for a massive 5 Test Series against the worlds best who have pantsed (no pun intended) us the last 2 times they have played here being to attend a Coldplay concert.
Meanwhile India had a full week of centre match practice at the WACA in conditions similar to what they would face across the river at Optus.....unbelievable!
Seriously I think McDonald is only there because he has a bus drivers licence to drive the team to and from their 6 star hotel to the ground......oh and plenty of Coldplay songs on his apple music account!!!

Difference being mate we had some good young talent coming through the ranks back in 1984/85 that just needed that  international experience for a couple of years before the worm started turning after the 1987 World Cup.
Guys like Boon, Jones, Marsh, S.Waugh, M.Waugh, Taylor, Healy, Moody, Reid, Hughes, McDermott, May etc would all come through in the next couple of years to build that solid foundation for Border to build from.
No such luxury this time especially batting wise, the batting well is as dry as the Simpson Desert sadly!

XU1 the biggest national shame is that there has been absolutely no succession planning whatsoever as Beas' has posted
and the guys we (and I suppose they) thought were going to get games have just lost drive to be ready
and now we have fuck all to choose from particularly batting-wise
but it goes further than that - the treatment of Morris is just appalling

Im not a fan of McDonald but he doesn't deserve all the vitriol that is thrown at him on here, my view is that he is obviously not a complete dud. Under his watch the Australian team have won a ODI world cup, a World Test Championship final and retained the ashes amongst other things. This tells me that the players are on the same page that he is.  Yes the succession planning has been a weakness and I have been critical of him about this but surely its not his responsibility alone. The seectors and other decision makers also need to take responsibility for the direction of the team.  With guys like Kontas, Kelleway and McSweeney the batting cupboard is not completely bare. Theres a couple of hard years ahead of the team but like the mid 80s a young group will emerge probably with McSweeney in charge. All sports teams have cycles and noone can be number 1 forever. Theres been some great years under this current team which are coming to an end but haters are always going to hate I guess

Mikeh the haters will hate. It's what they do, though if the coach/selectors were WA born n bred, the vitriol on here would probably be non existent

On a positive note good to see the likes of Richardson, Morris, Johnson and Bartlett back playing.....and Richo especially amongst the wickets. Just wish all 4 boys could stay fit.

Batting wise good to see Goodwin continue his strong form, he and Konstas are two likely sorts, along with Green, Hardie, Davies,  McSweeney and  Connollly. Time will tell if they are Australia's future.

Spinning wise, Murphy, Rocchiccioli and Sangha look to have bright international futures ahead of them.

hatred has nothing to do with this situation mate
this team has been quite fortunate at times with their wins
and here they had India who have just been trounced at home but have had no rudder at all
and it starts at the very top with attitudes doesn't it?

What an absolute train wreck of a batting line up sheesh.
Im pretty sure McDonald is a selector along with Bailey & Dodemaide so he is fully responsible for the position we are in now and will be for some time including the Ashes here next summer.
Freeze interesting you didnt nominate either Voges or Harvey to be promoted for the roles they have performed in turning WA cricket around, but to be honest thank god, as I would rather they stay here looking after our state rather than become puppets for Pats Posse!

Considering Voges hasn't even got the balls to drop Bangers from  the WA set up, not sure Voges would be any different to Aust current bus driver BH.....and I am a Voges fan. Seems like a few red flags creeping in with Voges coaching this season.....few too many WA batting collapses, questionable selections......sounds very Ronaldesque like now......perhaps WA just got lucky with that hat trick of SS trophies, like Ronald did with those WTC and ODI WC trophies?

Perhaps  I am sounding very "woke" here, but disappointing to see Uzzie let the newbie take strike v Bumrah first over of that mini survival session before stumps. Senior opener letting the youngster take strike first up...though no doubt a hard nut like JL, probably would of endorsed that same line of thinking, as it would look awfully soft protecting the  youngster in the line of duty.
