Well there goes another advantage to Australia then SS thanks to the Emperor as Australia is unbeaten in Test Cricket at Perth Stadium and England have never played a Test Match there as yet.
All the E/S media talk of the Gabba being "our fortress" obviously forgets we lost to a second string Indian line up there last Summer whilst we are yet to lose a Test at the fast bouncy Perth Stadium!

Freeze I have no idea why we dispensed of Renshaw so quickly for mine as he showed a good technique opening the batting a few years back as a 20yo, he knew where his off stump was and when to leave the ball, but for some reason the selectors thought Harris & Burns were better options for some god foresaken reason?

Not sure how much longer Warner will play on and if Pucovski will ever recover from his plethora of head knocks but I wouldnt mind seeing Renshaw returned as an opener in the near future he is still only 25 now, imho he should take back the opening role at QLD.

My 1st Ashes Test side would be-

Warner
Renshaw
Labuschagne
Smith
Green
M.Marsh
Inglis/Carey (wk)
Cummins (C)
Richardson/Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Pretty spot on with that list BH.
The Gabba being a fortress? ... maybe if they can actually get a full 5 days of decent weather which is often not the case, especially this year. If they had started the series as early as usual, all the ES tests would have been rained out.

Has McClown backflipped again? Now saying all along the Ashes teams will have to quarantine for 14 days. Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago he said they would only be required to quarantine for 5 days?

His popularity must be declining so he’s gone back to what made him popular, keep the borders shut so everyone can feel safe and he can continue to boast we don’t have Covid here. He is pathetic. Only delaying the inevitable which will simply hurt our economy and set us back further.

So Carey is a definite....predictable choice I guess.....not sure the right one, but hey we are talking JL here.....Inglis wasted precious red ball practice  sitting on his arse in the UAE.....would of been a proper bat off if he had played for WA over the last 4-6 weeks......but then again WA's replacement keeper  Philippe, wouldn't of gotten the opportunity he has had to show his wares....all we can hope for is that Carey thinks it's white ball cricket and not the red ball format come the 1st test....definitely been chalk and cheese between his form in both those formats......Head and Starc  are  monty's I guess for the other spots.......

AR & Archie can you believe this will be Jimmy Anderson's 6th or 7th tour of Australia.
He didnt play any of the Tests in the 2002/03 series but can remember him playing in the one day games that summer as his bowling action impressed me with his ability to swing the ball at a decent clip.
That must be close to a record for a touring player although those West Indies teams of the 1970s & 1980s seemed to be out here every year if not every second year so Viv, Greenidge, Haynes, Holding, Garner, Marshall, Dujon etc might have gone close?

Well if the Perth test doesn't go ahead. With Melbournes second test being a day / night test+Adelaide day /night test.
Plays into England's hands with Anderson + Broads .Swing under lights with the pink ball.England might spank us this summer.
You would think Australia would win at the Gabba and Optus.

I think the English would be just as happy with a Tassie test to......probably need to pick Finch for both those day night tests..... for the coin toss......

Travis Head gets the nod at number 5 and they go with the tried and true bowlers. All fairly predictable but I would hazard a guess that other bowlers in the squad will definitely get opportunities to play given the compressed nature of the series.
For the history buffs, the last time that England REGAINED the ashes in Australia was 1970-71.  Every other series they have won in Australia since then (1978-79, 1986-87 and 2010-11) they have retained the ashes which they already held. So a real chance for England to do something special in this series. My hunch is that much depends on their ability to somehow reduce the impact of Steve Smith.

That was a pretty momentous series. Perths first ever test was 51 years ago almost to the day, Greg Chappell made a ton in his first test, Lillee took a 5 for in his debut and Lawry declared in Melbourne with Marsh on 92. England walked off the ground in Sydney because of crowd behaviour, Then Lawry was sacked prior to the last test. John Snow was all over Australia's batting and England were too good.
