58shark, I'll preface my statistics below by saying that we performed abysmally during the 1977, 1981 and 1985 Ashes series in England, losing 9, drawing 6 and winning only 2 of 17 Tests.
However, in 48 Tests in England since that 1985 series (when England regained the Ashes), we've won 21, lost 16 and drawn 11.

Well done to Australia. Not one got out to a good ball, it was steady bowling unforgivable batting. Root needs to keep things simple: 'only play balls on the wicket'; play for the red ink; anybody whom plays the ramp shot or reverse should lose his match payments to charity.

Root should also consider resigning, as Border once did.

Looks like a forced bowling rotation with Hazlewood struggling to come up post the GABBA.....obviously a big out, but if Cummins/Hazlewood//Starc played in Adelaide, surely the latter  two would have to rest for the Boxing day test......can't see how Cummins is going to get a break TBH.....So who's in for Adelaide?.....Neser or Richardson? Neser just come off a 5 for v EL, whilst Richardson similar v QLD, but over a fortnight or so ago......both will definitely shore up the lower order batting.....I reckon Neser will get the nod......though Richardson would be very unlucky.....Starc only plays because of his record in the day nighters.....but geez he is due a bad one there I guess......so important now for Green to bowl more......keep it tight to allow Starc to only be bowled in 4 over spurts, to prevent him from leaking too many runs......Warner surely will play.......be very surprised if Harris scores runs in a day/nighter......needs Aust to win the toss and bat first......get some runs before the lights come on.....

We must remember in that 1985 Ashes Series was when we had all those players who had signed up for the South African rebel series unavailable Arch.
Players of the calibre like Terry Alderman who took 40 odd wickets in each of the 1981 & 1989 Ashes Tests, he would have been handy in 1985 as well.
Also Kim Hughes, Rodney Hogg, Carl Rackemann, John Dyson, Mike Haysman, Trevor Hohns, Steve Smith, Tom Hogan, Graham Yallop etc would have been handy for depth on that tour.

I don’t think Richo will get the nod.  It seems to me that ES players usually get picked over WA players.  Maybe Mr Warne will go to bat for him??
2x25= Seinor and Michael = 1xBrian Peake

58 heaps of West Aussies have headed  east. To improve the national selection chances.Simon Katich comes to mind.

'Bease': as you said the present lot certainly put the performance of Cook and Trott  into perspective, demonstrating their greatness in 'urn cricket'. Unfortunately even Cook has been  conned by the supposed players of today, particularly, Stokes. Yep, Cook was asked to pick an 'Ashes XI, players whom he had played with or against . He picked Stokes ahead of Pietersen at number five. Can you  believe it?

Very interesting AR.
Considering Cook played against the likes of-

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Martyn
Warner
Smith
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
McGrath
Johnson
Harris
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
etc........................

I am surprised he found room in his side for any Poms....................let alone South Africans or Kiwis!!!!!!

BH: Cook played against the Australian attack so he goes before Langer and the Qld bloke.
He picked Ponting and Smith, from memory; most of the bowlers were Aussies, Jimmy squeezed in the side. Okay in England. Broad, he excluded because, as we know, he averages forty here.

Interesting that Anderson and Broad are being touted as the "saviours" for England. A bit of a selection conundrum for England if they want to include both because the pace attack was one of the few things that worked well for England in Brisbane. Robinson, Wood and Woakes were all threatening and they created enough chances to bowl Australia out for a lot less than the 425 that they ended up with. Unfortunately the fieldsmen wasted a lot of these chances.
The other issue with playing Broad and Anderson in the same team is that neither has had any real match practice since coming off injuries and you would think it would take a while for guys in their 30s to get up to the level of match fitness required. Also if you look at their records in Australia, they are nowhere near as potent as they are in England.
It would be a risk including both of them especially if it is at the expense of Wood or Woakes who will also cause the Australians problems in a pink ball test.
