This a snapshot of what was brought up last night- We are $790k in debt, we start fresh from 28th Aug once accountants have squared away and balanced the books and negotiated repayment plans with creditors, 10c or 20c in the dollar, what ever they agree too. We haven’t received any revenue from the new rooms yet, we have been hamstrung by Venues West who we are fucking off, in fact there are over 200 members there tonight that want a large chunk of the pricks. No name changes, no money in it. We have missed out on revenue from our Corporate Classic, banquet auction and Golf Classic that = around $200k a year because we simply couldn’t afford to set them up. Colin Rockman (Big Rock Toyota) spoke and got stuck into Scott Ballem which was entertaining but not deserved, Scott has been a good face for the club the last couple of days. Rockman reckons we should pay all creditors 100% of money owed. They know where debt originated but can’t divulge until we get the running of the club back. There was reference too Swans back in 2000 and they went to the members quickly and got through it sort of, they were always chasing your arse like most clubs. Accounting firm now have control of the club until the 28th August, our coaches and match day organisers continue with what they are doing.

The current CEO and board came across it a few months ago and Ballem had his personal accountants come in for 4 weeks to sort out the trail. They did say it was 100% nothing to do with player payments because it is not actually money missing so to speak, it was from all reports equipment received for the footy dept and the invoices not being entered. Like most businesses, you try to trade out of it before you simply pull the pin, it is a natural human reaction.

I think that's a narrow view STT. Any club bar Subiaco could quite easily find themselves in a similar situation. Swans just a few years ago found themselves in a dire financial situation and don't forget our club Perth will face challenges in the near future when we anticipate our grandstand will be torn down and new premises built. That will present challenges and most likely a diminished revenue stream during the transition period. Costs and debt can blow out very quickly. I just hope we've got some smart people in charge when the time comes to minimise the damage.

I am therefore not going to hang shit on West Perth who have had their challenges since moving to Joondalup. In fact it is quite remarkable that they continue to remain very competitive and regularly play finals while we have continued to languish around the bottom.

Whens your new facility going up?

Don't forget WPFC got a whole new Club House built for them by the tax payer.

Fuck me Bazza, I love ya but you are so naive, your comments some times bring a tear to a glass eye........

I don't think anything will start until the Eagles new facilities are complete Bazza. Maybe we will be able to use their facilities on game day or maybe we will be forced to use the Claremont Showgrounds like Claremont did and I think that caused the Tigers some financial problems.

The one thing I have consistently been critical of in regards to WP is their refusal to embrace changing their name to Joondalup. I've copped criticism for it here and not only from WP supporters but that is now being spoken about as vital to WP turning their books around.

DD,

We have been down this path before mate. Local business have not committed to sponsoring any substantial figures individually or collectively regardless the name change, Would you change your family name for $100K ?

He didn't sound positive at all, I think he knows it over.

Rockman said exactly the same thing last night at the meeting, he is a miserable old bugger that isn't looking how to fix it but pointing fingers, we don't need people like that in our hour of need.

Bazza wrote: They stated the debt as $ 790,000 last night, this is an increase from the $600K first announced. ( my mail was that it was always more than $600k - turns out correct)

But that doesn't include the 250k lent from WAFC last week or the 50k from WAFC at the start of the season or the 50 given by a supporter, , so its around the $1,140,000.00 mark.

But it may be worse, a caller straight after Colin , "John" stated he had supplied WPFC for some time and that they had not honoured payment , his debt stands at $20,000.00, he believed the club meeting had not been honest about the debts when it was announced there was no smaller debts over $5K.

To make matters worse he was also a sponsor - $5500.00.

To say be feels ripped off is putting it mildly.

Bazza, Bazza, Bazza,

Ballem also said there are a few suppliers that they will make sure they look after outside the $5k jobbies, that would obviously be Rockmans mate "John" who called in straight after him. No shit he would feel ripped off but he may get payed, no one said they WON'T get paid.

Stand the Test wrote: Players the only victims. Re the members it is your club. Any member (anyone really) can make sure that they keep an eye on their boards to make sure things are being run right. I would encourage members of other WAFL clubs to be on the blower today asking that they be fully informed of their club's debt level, revenue this year vs last year, assets etc etc.

Can you give us a summary right now of your clubs P&L STT ???

Do you want SDFC to fold, because that is what will happen if we don't take urgent action and make it viable.

Is SANFL run by the AFL?

SANFL a bit smarter. They owned AAMI.Now that the two afl teams are playing at Adelaide oval I think the plan is to sell aami and at least the money will benefit the clubs.

Yep, can't work out why Mike thinks they are running SANFL , in fact they are far smarter and have decoupled by selling the licences which is what we should do.

Baz,

The Licences are worth a pinch of shit, purely because the WAFC bend over every time the AFL gets their cock out. When you are getting service like that why would you want to buy it !

mikeh wrote: OK on a more immediate note, how is this going to affect the players and what they put out on the park against Peel tomorrow?

Mike H,

I got there a bit early yesterday and listened to Ballem address the players for 45min in which he spoke well and the players asked a few questions. At the end when they broke up, of the 50+ players in attendance, 30+ went up to him and either shook his hand, gave him a pat on the back or a hug. That suggested to me that we will be more than ok for the remainder of the year :)
