Freezin wrote: 42.....considering the Vic Metro and Country teams follow this player first mentality and win every carnival practically.....not too sure what other choice WA junior set up has in search of success but to follow this blue print...it's not as though WA have been winning the bloody thing in the last 5-10 years.....last years runners up position for WA had been a one off compared to previous carnivals ...everyone raved on about Sumichs coaching expertise last year....let's see how really good he is then.......

If you think developing players that are more concerned about gathering possessions that shepherding for your team mate then so be it. What was the first qtr score and how many points would WA have won by if their opponents had not scored after the first quarter?

not botherred about the Teal Cup at all to be honest -- it never has been and never will be the barometre for assessing the health of football in this state.

How in fark do the Vic teams win these carnivals playing this non development strategy of players you ramble on about where players are simply gathering possessions 42..... I have watched a lot of these carnival games on the AFL site over the years 42....pretty sure the Vic boys shepherd, do the one percenters, pressure the opposition, chase down tackles, gut run into space etc....not sure what you mean TBH......would of thought all those acts are team orientated....

Freezin: there are many factors explaining the good performances of Victoria in Teal Cups includding the three below:

greater participation rate in the sport
genuine skill
the sheer will and determination of their players

The Victorians have always been more intense than West Australians about football.

Non development strategy freezin. Perhaps you can ask BH of what he thinks of the player first mentality or Grump's opinion.

The new system working a treat. The real issue the lack of numbers at youth level. This is beginning to impact on the quality coming through. Competitions are becoming less and thinner

I agree that the fundamental issue is participation numbers in the Youth competitions. It is too early to tell whether the new model works. It will take some time before we can assess whether the "extra resources" have been put in the right places.

money was put into giving a bloke from the AFL a job in Perth as his job was made redundant in Victoria.

some of it may have been but more money than that has been tipped in and some of it is likely to prove well spent, eg extra S&C at 16s level; more video access through Colts and 16s and Welfare Officers at Colts level, extra mentoring for colts and 16s coaches

the talent manager Swans had lasted 5 mins and the duties have had to be done by the coach.
