Great to see Bennell has signed at Swans. And Ellard too. One of the most important things for the WAFL to focus on now is these delisted blokes go back to their original club. That's great work from Swans. Now it's perths turn with College, Tendai and Clem Smith. Flick off Cary and Etto because they offered very little and would free up points. I reckon Cary from Swans would be a handy pick up

I reckon the longer College and Smith remain un-signed by us the more likely they will be looking to go elsewhere.Smith would have ties with Wiley and ex teammate Watson @ East Freo.

Imo our non finals appearances whilst these guys have been on AFL lists may have a huge bearing where they end up.
eg.If Tendai gets delisted and is not picked up by another AFL club his finals and premiership success at Peel may see if wanting a whole lot more, can we give him that??
Very Doubtful.

30+...don't reckon much will happen decision wise from Colledge and Smith till after the draft mate....both will be hoping for a draft reprieve somewhere from some one surely before signing with any WAFL club.....

Maybe but that wouldnt stop them from signing, they just have an out clause if they get re-drafted.

what also may have an impact on things is there is no transfer fee between state leagues anymore players may want to stay in Victoria or SA and the WAFL clubs get no fee, on the other hand it opens up the door for a WAFL club to get a bloke over and you only have to find them a job and accommodation and not pay a 15k transfer fee.

Perhaps a tweaking of the points allocated to returning players could help to direct them back to their original clubs especially if they finished in the bottom half of the table.

Or maybe some subsidy of their wages under the salary cap system?

Yep I was thinking something like this. Perhaps a $10k grant per returning player to ward off other clubs. That would be a start. Points won't make any difference due to only being 1 point anyway and that's no incentive financially to the player. But if you ask me it's so vital to clubs to get these players back

I was more thinking that if another club recruits a returning player from a lower placed club that that player be rated at say 15-20 points to discourage them.

I'm pretty sure Tendai will feel loyalty to the Perth FC that gave him the opportunity to grow as a player. It took him a while to mature. We are assuming of course he will get delisted but gee he performed well for Peel in that grand final. Fremantle may yet hang on to him for one more year.

Tendai's offer from Swans had a coaching component I believe and that maybe the attraction for him if he's looking at a coaching future, so Perth would need to offer something similar that gives him a coaching pathway, surely Perth are better placed to provide an attractive salary package than Swans.

Well both clubs have previously been fined for salary cap indiscretions so whatever's on the table is probably matched by what's being offered under the table.
