Talking of competitive sponserships working together..

Sydney Swans wearing Volks Wagon logo on shorts when TOYOTA Major sponsers of the AFL.

From the Sydney Morning Herald today... The WAFC are making themselves the laughing stock of Australia... What a bunch of fool and THEY ARE BRINGING HE WAFL into disrepute and makeing our comp look pretty ordinary... When we are the current Australian state side who have beaten SA and Vic to make ourselves the top Grass roots Australian side. B)

This whole thing in the paper today seems like 7 trying to sink the boot in because their worried about 9 promoting the game more than them.

Its plain to see 7 don't promote the game at all, maybe 2 ads on a weekend if your lucky. 9 shows about 5 in a night promoting the west perth v swans and next minute there's a story in the paper.

If 7 were actually doing what its supposed to it would be a non issue.

I've been a fan of the WAFL since 1979. I have never been so disgusted at the running of the league as I am at the moment. The WAFC should be protecting the interests of the clubs, not the broadcaster. If 7 had put up a million dollars a year for the broadcasting rights, it would be a different story, but seeing they arranged for sponsors to make the payment, their bargaining position is weakened. The 8 clubs should be ashamed of themselves as well for their stance. Would East Perth be complaining if 9 refused to show their games because 7 sponsor them? Its almost guaranteed they would.
7 lost me as a broadcaster on the opening game of the season when they decided to interview a sponsor on the boundary line while the game was in progress. Their pathetic attitude to not showing West Perth games because of Channel 9 on their jumpers is pedantic and pathetic. Grow the f**k up 7.
As for the WAFL itself, if it wasn't for the fact I have an official role with my club, I would walk away from the competition and go back to watching my suburban footy club playing in C4 amateurs. The way it is being run, I would prefer the AFL take it over and it be known as AFL WA, so at least we wont have the halfwits running the game at the moment involved in any way.

Corbin Middlemas summed it up beautifully on Sports talk on ABC this morning

The WAFC have had months to sort this out but they have put their head in the sand hoping that West Perth wouldn't make the finals and the problem would go away. People are paid good money at the WAFC and they havent done their jobs. Now they are scapegoating West Perth for their own shortcomings

The point was also made that there are only 3 outcomes of this dispute as it stands at the moment because both neither side appear not to be willing to compromise at this late stage.

1. West Perth to remove the logos in the finals
2. The WP finals will not be televised
3. West Perth to be chucked out of the finals

I think 2 will not happen, so it is either 1 or 3, my view is that the WAFC and Channel 7 will offer West Perth significant financial compensation to drop the logo in the finals and channel 9 may allow this given that they have already got so much free publicity and I would imagine many West Perth fans will rock up to the finals with banners with the 9 logo.

I think 2 is the most probable outcome of the three.

I also heard on ABC that one of the WAFC suggestions was to change the 9 logo to a Stan(?) logo which is a company owned by 9 but both West Perth and 9 have declined this. Is this true? Seems like a pretty good comprimise for the comp to move on.

There could be another solution, No 4.
Remove ALL advertising from all football guernseys. I thought a footy jumper is supposedly part of a teams uniform? Not a mobile billboard!

Thanks for your support Toddy. A legend of the WAFL

WAFL legend John Todd calls for peace to resolve West Perth television furore

“Good sponsorship is so hard to come by and $100,000 a year for a WAFL club is hard to come by,” Todd said.

“I admire West Perth for that and there needs to be a compromise to protect all parties in this dispute of television coverage. The WAFL needs every bit of exposure it can get and we need to protect that. I wonder what would happen if all of those other clubs had the same opportunity to get a sponsorship like West Perth?

I wonder what CHN 7 are paying the EPFC in sponsership? Seems strange that they sponser EP (Eagles) and get the media as well.. ;)
EPFC made their first profit for years and from all reports could not of maintained the losses they were making even to the extent they would of had to go into receivership.
Now they are laughing all the way to the bank with a nice profit last year due to the Eagles paying all their costs. While other WAFL clubs have to find 1 to 1.5 million a year to run their club.

I heard yesterday that it goes deeper than just the 7 Sponsership and the New stadium is also involved and the WAFC has a bigger agenda with 7.. Possibly 7 having the AFL contract at the New stadium and they didnt want any conflict with 9 etc etc etc.

I would love to see the bidding for the contract/tender by CHN9 and Chn (refering to a Anal passage :) ) 7. Was it done correctly and via due process? If as has been said the WAFC had already made up their mind they have committed an offence!!!!!!!!!
It is obvious looking at the makeup of the Committee at the WAFC THEY ALL HAVE VESTED INTERESTS..

What a tangled web the WAFC is creating and all is not as meets the eye.

Maybe the WA Govt should step in and do an investigation into the whole sham and due a review and audit of the WAFC and their operations.
They have it made it quite clear they have no idea on how to run a Football code and are totally incompetent.
