I guess when you are a dual F&B winner, Sandover Medallist and a multiple State Rep that qualifies you for this thread......Rory O'Brien wears number 4.....Rory it is then! ;)

loved watching the likes of Bairstow, Blackaby and Rankin playing in the 80's...especially since Blackaby and Rankin came over with little or no fan fare and played some fantastic footy for SD and EF during those WAFL strong years

..being a Footscray fan enjoyed watching Hardie wander out of their backline in the mid 80's more so then when he played at SF....won a Brownlow for Footscray from memory....wasn't Mick Malthouse their coach back then?

Would love to see Blackaby get a spot.
He was the heart and soul for Swans during that era and was an excellent people person.
He scoured Swans zones and districts to get quality footballers down to Basso and had the ability to communicate with the new generation of young players coming thru.
Remember this was the beginning where the competition from other sports was becoming stronger.
I still say he was the principal architect for their success in 1990.

I agree Dev, Ed blooded some great kids and had us on the right path before JT took over and won the 90 flag!

Ok folks, not a huge list of nominations this week for the number 4 but here we go.

The 3rd best player in the WAFL to have worn the number 4 jumper is . . .

Mark Bairstow (SF) - Sandover, State player, AFL captain of GF sides, F&B the lot.

The 2nd best player in the WAFL to have worn the number 4 jumper is . . . .

Brad Hardie (SF) - Brownlow medals, Tassie medals, Simpson medals, State games and the rest.

and the best player in the WAFL to have worn the number 4 jumper is . . . .

Frank Treasure (SF) - 6 times premiership player, SFFC captain and runner-up in Sandover plus many state games of footy.

I can hear you all now, geez doggie, can you fit any more SF blokes in? But I just called it as I saw it. 3 pretty handy footballers you would have to agree??

So on to number 5. The famous number 5. Ron Boucher springs to mind from SD, Willie Roe at SF . . .give me some more folks.
SFFC - WOOF WOOF
