Funny thing was we ended up getting Robbie for a few seasons down the track & like Swannie was saying he was no shrinking violet either
They were really good times brother

Did my work experience in yr 10 at Simon Outhwaites sports store on Murray st Perth, Brendon Barrows was working there at the time. Simon was a top man! I thought I was king shit because I was working with an ex WAFL star haha

P- Mick Rea

That's remarkable you typed Bill Valli mate , was only thinking about number 3's earlier and had Bill slotted at WP for #3

Quite a few of those would make state teams easily and most did hey 'Beas

Valli is the ball legend at WP this year.. Does anyone know who SD have? I know Bucky is $ubis ball legend

I went to Ken Armstrongs funeral at Lathlain and big Mac was there and I tell you even as an older man he had an imposing stature! Would love to have witnessed his 1955 GF heroics!

Better luck to you mate !!! Simon was a real unsung hero at South - played in number 26 and will be eventually nominated for it too

Just about all his career at Half-Back but Browny played him on the ball for periods during the 1980 finals series - kicked 2 goals in the Grand Final against you guys mate how's that hey ???

And from memory his daughter Sarah was a world class rower too

I was lucky to be there that GF day in 1955 as a 13 year old. Big Mac was my hero. I had been in awe of him since I was about 8.
He certainly was a big man imposing stature as you say but also imposing character.
That day Perth came from behind in the last quarter kicking against the wind. When we finally hit the front Big Mac took charge with 5 or so minutes left and he kept forcing the ball out of bounds in the dead pocket at the city end. He would not get away with that tactic these days as a hitout on the full would be a free kick. But he did it time and again and we won by 2 points.
He won the Simpson Medal(his third) to go with his 3 Sandovers and a Tassie Medal. It was his last game.
Yes, he was Number 1 in more ways than one.

Swandog: good one. I could have sworn Valli played in number 1 in 1982, but number 10 it was. I must have missed the zero as a little kid.
