To my knowledge theres only 6 country's on the planet where indigenous sports are larger than Soccer.
1.Republic Of Ireland
2.Canada.
3.USA.
4.New Zealand
5.Australia
6.South Africa.
That's one of the reasons we get this FIFA gift of qualifying.Have England missed 3 of the last 7 world cups.Australia don't beat Holland,Italy or England in a two match playoff. In the early 90's we ran into Argentina in a similar playoff.

Mate whats the indigenous games for NZ and RSA? If your thinking Rugby Union , its the same as Assc. Football , indengous to England. Every other nation you list have indigenous games, although Gaelic Football and Asc Football are both popular in Ireland, Gaelic shading it out, Hurling big as well.

Good comment Baz.Rugby might of been England's game.It now belongs to Nz+ RSA.

No country owns it, besides British Isles based sides still do well, ireland just cleaned up Australia.

Baz I'm pretty sure soccer might be a bigger spectator sport in RSA.But financially pretty sure Rugby would sell and buy soccer over there.A few times over.

Gtr you maybe right about the financial side of things re SA Rugby vs Soccer but a workmate of mine who is recently from SA has told me that both Rugby & Cricket were always considered rightly or wrongly the "white man's sports" in SA (that is quickly changing I believe) whilst Soccer more the "black man's game".....it is worth noting the population difference between the 2 in SA is stark approximately 5 to 1.

Yep soccer the game of the black african masses, one of the reasons they got to host a world cup.

Hardly surprsing, most people that follow soccer there live in tin shacks.

Wow! Mexico are looking shakey in the match against Sweden. If the Mexicans go down, their fate lies in Germany apparently. But if the German - South Korean match is a draw. Mexico might be safe.

Germany should hve won that game 5-0; that means, I am afraid, that the Koreans were bloody lucky.

What a night...

A gutsy Korean team has knocked the World Champs out of the Comp, for the first time since 1938 Germany will not progress . this must surely end the 12 year tenure of Joachim Low, they never looked settled, apparently divisions in the squad have formed over the Turkish players inclusion after they publicly visited the Turkish President.

Sadly it wasn't enough for the Koreans to stay in the tournament.

First ever time an Asian teen has beaten Germany.

Justice for the Swedes as they demolished Mexico 3 Nil, to top the group and progress which was well deserved.

Switzerland knock the Serbs out, pity I was hoping Croatia and Serbia would meet up some time in the comp,,,just to watch the crowd!

Two fantastic games there mate..

I'm taking a shine to the Croatians ( maybe because I grew up near Spearwood lol ) they have been impressive,,,I'm feeling they will account for the Danes, they have an assertive aggressive style of play which they will have trouble countering.

Is hard to believe the Germans are gone. The South Koreans scoring their two goals very late in the match. Only the second time Germany have been eliminated after the first round.
Hard to believe South Korea only had 26% of the ball possessions in the match.
