Swannies by 10 goals. Even the Duke reckons they need a top 8 to play finals. Ducks look good again.

OK the first squad has been picked. Looks like a reasonable side, good mix I reckon. The new recruits from Perth and East Perth have all been selected in the 25, only Houghton is certain of a start IMO. Firstly we have the 14 core players who along with Banfield and Blakely when they come back will be the mainstays of the team namely:

Ames
Ugle
Riggio
Rogers
Howard
Blight
Geappean
Simpson
Davis
Cary
Elari
Notte
Faulkner
Houghton

Swans need to hope that these guys are fit and play the majority of games during the season if they want to be in the mix for finals. I note that Jukes is in the reserves on Saturday and Casserley is not playing at all, but I would see these two as core players as well.

Then there are guys like Broad, Burnham, Nuich, Riddoch, Smirk, Nuich, Wiyjk and Slater who I regard as borderline players who have a chance to cement a spot this year.

Finally there are the 4 players from the 2014 colts team, Ansey, Coniglio, Daniels and Wilson who must be given a chance to find their feet at this level.

I think overall this is a well balanced squad that will give a good account of itself on saturday.

I also had a quick look at where each of the players from the 2014 colts grand final team were this week. 4 are in the league squad, 9 are in reserves, 5 are still playing colts, 2 are on the team list but are not playing in any grade and 3 appear to have left the club as they are not on the official club list.

Yeah Dylan Nelson is playing reserves but no doubt he will get an opportunity at some stage along with a number of the others. Mostert is still only 17 and is one of the 5 playing colts on Saturday. Many of these guys will get a taste of the big league this year.

Notice on the Perth thread Latch is named at full back...I'd be sending Notte down at some stage to stretch them from the goal square. Cary is good overhead but Tony gets a foot taller. Will be an interesting little side note to this game.

Ok Swannies fans....now I've just finished watching a one dayer that resembled Bodyline time to turn the eyes on our season opener...what have we got to look forward to tomorrow?? Any surprises in store?? My first proper look for the year tomorrow so excitement is building within. After a really pleasing 2014 season as a whole I go in to the season hoping we've found a bit to compensate the outs but also to add to natural improvement of players weve now got games in to like Cary, Faulkner, Doc when we get him back, hopefully Rudy finds his feet at the level as I love the Danny Penny factor he carries, by all reports Broady had a cracking pre season. This team has been working together for a couple of seasons now and with the new additions can we put it together and give this comp a shake in 2015. Bloody oath we can......caaaaaarn Swannies!!!

I like the look of our list going into tomorrow mate and we will once again be hard to toss, we have god leg speed across the lines, youthful exuberance with a healthy spread of experience too. I have been pleased with our scratchies so now looking forward to trying to attain 4 points first up. Perth will hit us hard and will be out to prove to everyone that they are not cellar dwellers again this season. Should be a ripper game, a big crowd 3000 plus and great weather at the best footy ground in the state! Carn the mighty black and whites!!
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Geez I can tell you that the Basso boys are absolutely flogging the Demons & if they'd have kicked straighter it 'd be well over 100 points already
