Cooked is finally gone, took McClown about a year to square away the factions before he could get rid of him without any internal rumblings, he should of gone ages ago, actually he shouldn't even be there, never managed a single thing in his life, no idea who the new women is but good luck to her.

Law and Order doesnt seem to be travelling to well either, there seem to be constant problems in the City, I see Yagan Square is now renamed Fight Square, if you have walked through there even during the day and been presented with an end to end line of drunks, slobs, arguing, fighting and abusing passers by while swigging on a bottle of plonk and chucking rubbish all over the place you will get the picture.
Pappalia on the news saying he would plonk a police van in there for 4 weeks, band aid for mine, just not enough yobbos being locked up and taken to sober up like the old days.
And now we have Hilarys taking a slice of the ‘action’.

I’ve worked in public health in Asia, Africa and the Pacific over the past 20 years, mostly in the area of communicable diseases. This is my two cents worth:
  • The number of acute public hospital beds has reduced by a third in the past 30 years. FACT. It didn’t start with the McGowan Government nor the Barnett Government nor the Gallup/Carpenter Government. It goes way back.·
  • Growth in public health funding in Australia largely supports the growth of a massive health bureaucracy. This is the main reason in my view why no matter how much new money gets pumped into hospitals very little changes. Much of it gets syphoned off to pay for more and more (mostly useless) health bureaucrats
  • Our population is ageing, thus demand for acute care is increasing. The popular myth that overcrowding at AED is caused by malingerers or people who could be treated in community-based settings or general practice clinics is not true. Demand is driven by demographics and a population with increasing ‘lifestyle’ diseases
  • Medical equipment costs are out of control and suck huge amounts of money out of the public health system. Medical equipment making is a licence to print money. They behave like cartels. It is a disgrace but public regulators do nothing about it in this country – just like they do nothing about banks, aged care etc etc
Having said all that if I was going to get gravely ill anywhere in the world I’d want it to be here…or Thailand. Good luck to Amber-Jade United Voice, I wish her well but I have no confidence in her "fixing" anything.

Daz I was told by an Australian doctor who told me he was quitting Australia along with his doctor wife for Canada where the entire hospital system is public, no private hospitals. I take it from that it is better funded. But the main reason for hospital ramping he said was too many nurses and doctors have been taken out of the nursing homes so they should be treating people in aged care but they were instead put into ambulances and shuffled off to a hospital bed. And the other reason he said was the huge increase in mental health patients.

He said working 85 hours a week catches up with you after a while. I take it he's going to work less hours for the around the same money in Canada. Here in Australia the federal government wants to syphon us all over to private hospital cover to take the problem off their hands. There's no way I could ever afford private hospital cover. I have had ancillaries cover with HIF for about 25 - 30 years.

Perhaps there is capacity if you combine all private and public hospitals but most of us can't afford private hospitals.

Yep Canada's health care is public but is still has issues - Health care issues in Canada
  • High cost of health care services
  • Chronic/communicable diseases
  • Aging population
  • Longer wait time
  • Geographical disparity
  • Lack of pharmacare/medicare drug plan
  • Access to a personal doctor
  • Shortage of medical technology
  • Lack of access to new drugs
  • Health policies and ethics
S it is just a question of the degree that each one has an effect.

I am not suggesting that you source is wrong but pick any place and there are issues.

The gov spends billions subsidising one of the most useless and ineffeicent insurance sectors in the world, the private health insurance industry, which would collapse over night without goverment subsidies, people are voting with their feet and walking away from it in droves, like you I have ancillaries, but dumped private health care hospital insurance years ago, it means I get wacked each year with the levy surcharge, but that still works out cheaper than buying some useless private hospital cover,

From all the reading I have done, we would be far better putting all those subsides into the public system and having a better served public system and thats what most people want.

The mere fact that only a minority of GPs bulk bill is ludicrous, after the billions we are spending tells me something is wrong.

So here we are desperate for nurses and we've got a nurse who's returned from the UK but she's held up by bureaucracy and sitting here on the dole. You can't make this shit up and get away with it.

Get off your slack arse McGowan and do your fucking job cunt.

We have been in HBF for nearly 50 years.  We currently have top cover which has a lot of advantage along with costing a shipload of do re mi.  You might want to upgrade as you get into the oldies bracket DD…it’s paying off for me.  eg…nearly 50k to get both my knees replaced among other problems.

You would of paid for that ten times over in premiums over the 50 years.

Why bother you get it all free anyway, my parents never had private health insurance whole life, had a no end of free operations, heart by passes the lot, cost sfa.

You make a good point Baz but I also agree with 58. I'm no spring chicken these days and in May of this year had a total hip replacement. The cost was circa $30k which HBF picked up and cost me nothing. If I was in the public health system I'd still be waiting with McGoo's elective surgery postponements. I was also able to choose my surgeon and got a guy who was just brilliant. I don't think you get to choose in the public health system and probably would have finished up with some clown who had a tea towel wrapped around his head. :-)

Old man had his heart valves replaced, had top surgeon, top care, FSH - mind you Cook wasn't health minister back then!

Private hospitals might be good for an early list elective stuff, but if anything serious is required you will be at one of the state major hospitals, private hospitals don't do the really big stuff.

Back when I was in Full Hospital Cover years ago I had a sinus op at St John of God Murdoch, worse medical experience of my life. Still have issues with it now.

I've been waiting for a minor eye procedure for a while Cooks constant cancellation of elective surgery keeps pushing it back, oh well I'm in no rush.
