A Pyrrhic victory for Desperate Dutton and unequivocally demonstrated the incompetence and impotence of Abbott as anything other than a wrecker.

not sure how the Conservative can be seen as incompetent given the antics of Turnbull this week -- the Conservative faction are a minority in the parliamentary Liberal party, and yet, they have managged to remove the most left-wing leader of the Libleral Party since Sir John Gorton was PM.

AR they are incompetent because nothing has changed. MT's problem was that his own personal beliefs were at odds with the Liberal Party's position. MT prostituted those beliefs by scrapping what he believed in and adhering to things that he didn't believe in such as climate change.

They had the benefit of seeing what dumping PMs had on the Labor vote and yet they chose to dump two PMs. And in dumping MT they didn't get their candidate. Instead they got someone who people like Abbott believe play an integral role in dumping him as PM. Completely dumb. They were also incompetent in the execution of MT. They allowed him to out-manoeuvred Desperate Dutton and Abbott.

what your forgetting in your analysis, Swan 42, is the fact that, the side which you regard as competent, Turnbull, morrison, Frydenberg, Bishop, Pyne, were going to lead the Liberal party to defeat, at the behest of Turnbill. That, I am afraid, is not competence in most people's eyes.

No AR I was speaking directly to the instigators of the coup: Desperate Dutton and Abbott. Their aim was to install Deperate Dutton as PM and they SINGULARLY FAILED.

Ark my reading and listening to the events suggests that Abbott as the leader of the conservative faction tried to install his puppet duttton and has been outmaneuvered by Turnbull by a tactical delay, asking for the letter with the 43 signatures (a tactic unheard of in the liberal party room) thus giving SCOMO time to develop a challenge. Then the Dutton camp got a slap when the vote for the spill only got up by 5 votes.

The biggest slap was morrison winning and thus heading the conservative religious right off and preventing the country being governed by Abbott by proxy!

People on here seem to be obsessed by Abbot; he wanted the removal of Turnbull and that is what he got.
Morrison is religious and is not from the left wing faction.
