Did anyone hear it?

Thought some good points were raised , as Langgdon said there will always be a presence in the Northern Corridor , but it might not be the Wpfc as we know it, similarly with Eastern and Southern. Hardie trotted out the same old stuff about Ef and Sf which sounded pretty trapped in the past, but did mention the 80s talk of a move to Rockingham and a 4 million offer sffc rejected.
Donny from spearwood actually made sense for once when he said facility rationalization should be a priority.

So Bazza what should a WAFL be like in 2025?

In 2025, that is only 7 years away, but any I would say it would be something like this by 2030.

Its now becoming obvious that two WAFL will not survive in Fremantle, the dismal attendances and performance of EF and declining attendances at SF, shrinking sponsorship and expenses of maintaining two clubs will not be sustainable for ever, I would say there will be one Fremantle WAFL club by then.

I would expect another merger in the inner city Perth clubs, maybe Perth and EP or perhaps Perth and SD.

I would not rule out a Subi move somewhere ether to join Claremont or even to move to Joondalup for a merger with WP, how much longer WP can survive on their own is debatable but there will be a team based in Joondy just like there will be one in the Eastern Suburbs.

No reserves and colts gone as well.

probably a 8 team comp. including 2 afl teams, but then again if the AFL reserves comp gets up then that could wipe the wafl out wholesale.

Good points Bazza, agree with your merger thoughts and the rationale. I think the two Fremantle WAFL clubs hierarchy would be derelict in their duties to not be at least considering and planning for this to occur in the future, no brainer

That is it Dwert, the other thing is , in a decade or less , all the club directors will be of an age that only know the WAFL in the post Eagles/Dockers era, that last of the old WAFL people will be gone, hence the attachment to the past will not be there, as you say planning must commence for the clubs into the era of smaller community based clubs.

I thought colts being taken out from under the umbrella of the WAFL clubs was going to improve the finances of the clubs.

Yep apparently that will save about 60K per annum , not sure how accurate that is but it wouldn't be enough to save say WPFC at the moment.

In a scenario where the AFL reserves is formed, and the colts are taken from us - the WAFL clubs would obviously lose a lot of relevance - in particular with a large chunk of the best playing talent being used to top up Fremantle and Eagles lists.

In such a scenario Peel would have little reason to exist - no history - no channel for colts - no Fremantle alignment.

It has been suggested should this happen that the WAFL would merge with the WAAFL and if everyone can hang on until this happens then all clubs could survive - how ever they would need to 'downgrade' themselves and get used to playing and existing at a different level.

Take Fremantle out of the Peel alignment and they will be back where they were before the alignment because their players don't stick around once they start their careers or vocational studies.
