Yep you could fire a shot behind and a lot of the ground is taken up with bouncing castles, cars parked and god knows what else.

I've been there with 15,000 and that was long before they had all that stuff was in Basso and , every corner of the ground was for crowd and the main bank was standing room only shoulder to shoulder packed in and behind the goals jammed.

good one Baz: I was at game against EP in 1980 which had 22,000, just short of the record. Needless to say you could not move.

Was just confirmed on the radio SD & Gtr were spot on well over a 1000/2000 let in for free after a massive line up at the heritage listed gates caused a backlog 5 minutes before bouncedown. Not sure why some who were not even at the game would dispute it unless either jealous or embarrassed with their own crowd number?!?!

One of the problems with the WAFL since 1987 has been that the sides with the greatest support have fallen the most over the years:

WP
EP
SF
EF

Perth's support has been magnificent considerring the trajectory of the club. SD have a solid supporter base, but as with most things in sport, turn out is linked to winning

Subi have improved support marginally, but only because they have won for the better part of two decades
Claremont has sufferred a lot with turn out, especially when you consider they have similar demogrphics to Subi supporters.

The perception that the ground was only 25% full is simply preposterous and just not true.

But let's cut to the chase: the question is why there was such a poor crowd for the final at Freo Oval given both teams were in part co-tenants at Freo Oval up until a few weeks ago.

That's pretty easy Swan, your game was between two real WAFL teams both with loyal and substantial supporter bases. The game at Freo had just 1 real WAFL team and a team that has very few supporters so to get 3500+ was a very good result. If for example Souths had played EF or Perth in that game they would have had numbers similar to your game, so maybe time for both sides of this argument to end the crowd size pissing contest and get back to talking about finals footy. You both have a great contest to look forward to, Swans can go in with few expectations on their shoulders, nothing to lose and everything to gain. Souths on the other hand have massive expectations which may weigh heavily on them. It may be the fear of losing that drives them this week.

SS fair point but I am not going to let Bazza's nonsense go unchallenged. Personally I am looking forward to another successful day at Freo Oval on Sunday.

The fact of the matter is -- and I think SF supporters will agree -- if the bulldogs fail to advance next week, their coach should come under scrutinty.

Interesting to note listening to an array of radio stations (ABC, 6PR, 91.3) and reading social media & the news today that all have made note of the magnificent crowd and unrivalled atmosphere of the experience at Bassendean Oval....at least we at SD are doing our bit to keep this comp relevant to the wider mass!
