Thanks LH

DW - if you want to be really afraid try doing this break down for Yr 8 & 9 vs Yr 10-12

Retention is the issue that IMO underlies everything else. It has to be an every day focus!
Massive drop off Auskicks to Modifieds and then from Yr 9 to Yr 10 so we have to be diligent at every level not just the traditional "when they discover girls and drinking".

You are around the same vintage as me DW and when I played U/17s 25 years ago in the Perth zone alone we had the following teams-
Armadale
Roleystone
Forrestdale
Kelmscott
Gosnells
Maddington
Thornlie
Kenwick
Forrestfield
Queens Park
Belmont (Redcliffe/Airport Eagles, Cloverdale)
Vic Park (Centrals, Canning)
South Perth (Manning, Kensington, Collier)

Now they would need 4 WAFL clubs districts combined to get that number...and apparently footy is booming now according to the number fudgers at HQ!

I played in the SD zone BH. U17 were combined 16/17 back in 1990 and there was only 6 teams in the comp. Basso, Swan View, Eastern Hills, High Wycombe, Kalamunda and I think Redcliffe from memory. The signs back then weren't great with only 6 sides running around spread over 2 school year groups.

I've learned why Claremont have played in nearly 100% of colts finals series in the last 40 years.

How could you fail with a combined metro/country zone like that?

And that's not even taking into account their PSA kids who drift away from junior clubs at some stage.

Enough is enough! Start spreading the talent a bit

I agree La Hincha , about time the WAFC spread the talent within the Tiges Metro District.

Christchurch , Scotch , Hale are the PSA zoned schools to the Tiges. Sacred Hearts College is another who seem to be on the improve with their Development of Juniors.

club registration is based on where you live not where you go to school.
Tim English went to Christchurch and Jimmy Miller Hale and both played at South.
Kyron Hayden went to Hale and is playing for Subi.
Logue went to Guildford but so did Narrier who is at Perth.
plenty of East Freo kids would go to Wesley or Aquinas as its in their area.
what is the issue here ?

Understand that MO. My point that I was trying to make is the huge difference in socio demographics which includes PSA schools between WAFL Metro Zones...

Cl - have 3 PSA in Christ Church , Scotch and Hale plus a growing football school such as Sacred Hearts. Country zone includes the Kimberley where were most of the good Aboriginal kids would come to Perth and attend either Christ Church , Scotch college or Clontarf College in Waterford.

EF - Have Aquina's as you rightly point out.

SD have Guildford Grammar , good footballing schools in Newman College and Governor Stirling.

Pth - have Wesley and Clontarf College in Waterford

EP have Trinity

SF have Fremantle Christian Brothers College , growing football school in Emmanuelle Catholic College

WP not sure

Peel not sure

Narrier also went to Hale

yes, my mistake on Narrier, it was Zac Fisher who went to Guildford with Logue.
Sacred Heart is in either Subi or West Perth's zone.

it wouldn't matter what sport you are talking about - footy, cricket, soccer - kids are going to play mostly near where they live, not sure what the issue is.

as for the country zones - Claremont elected to take the Kimblerley's, Swans the Pilbara and south got Exmouth and Carnarvon - 1st in best dressed and the other clubs missed out, no point worrying about it now.

Swans lost a heap of clubs when Peel came in from the South West.

The last District review was in 2009... might be worth having a look at this demographic in the next review which should be soon?...that is if we still have a WAFL competition?
