Larry Bird wrote: Swan do I count playing for Swans reserves as an opportunity for EP players. Please set out the parameters. Being serious for one second, hypothetically EP finishes the alignment then loses its junior zones how is that sustainable for EP. And how does a weak EP help the WAFL survive or be credible.

There are 22 players selected in a league team each week. There are 22 places available for Swans' players to fill each week in our league team. In YOUR league team for your match on the 13th May how many places are available for East Perth players after all the West Caost Eagles are selected in the East Perth league team?

You go first with the year three maths. How many EP players have you stocked your reserves with in recent years. Why have you deprived local kids of a spot on your list to recruit mid tier talent from EP. Is it because they will easily buy the snake oil being peddled. You see Swan it's all a matter of perspective.

LB the only reason the East Perth boys are playing reserves is because of the wonderful Swans developed juniors.Ryan Crowley,Xavier Ellis,Matt Rogers,Matt Riggio.

Thanks LH ... On the numbers you've posted - Clearly Bulldogs and Sharks DFDCs doing something right in terms of retention. How have they done that?

Thanks again LH re 15s - if these are correct then solid numbers for Subi and WP, hopefully to make up for the 16s and 18s

I think that the participation rate and retention rate in junior/youth football is often overlooked in the talent/development debate. Establishing and maintaining quality community competitions is, I think, critical to the process

How absolutely pathetic to try to equate the East Perth host club alignment with the situation at Swans. The guys we have recruited from East Perth KNOW that there are places available in our league team. In fact there are 22 places available in Swans league team. How many are there in the East Perth league team. It is not my club that sold their soul to the devil. The guys who came across from East Perth left East Perth because they knew there were no opportunities in the East Perth league team.

Demonstrably Swans have provided the opportunities for our colts' players to progress to our reserves and league including the likes of Coniglio and Logue to name just two. It might shock you to know that Ellis is our colts' coach.

Wasn't Crowley playing for Essendon last year? I am pretty sure I don't recall seeing Ellis playing for us either last year.

Such a small amount of junior teams when you think hard about it. Footy has an extremely bleak future based on those numbers. The powers that be need to get their shite together or we may not outlive the Great Barrier Reef
