PN it in actual fact was the 3rd worst attended WAFL GF since the War Years.
In fact the 4 worst attendances since WWII have all come this decade- 2014, 2015, 2016, 2011 and 1 club has been involved in all 4.
Taking out the war years you have to go all the way back to 1934 when the GF was held at Perth Oval (remember that venue) to get a lower attendance and the population of Perth & WA would have been around 2 million less than now.
A mate of mine who is a Fremantle sycophant attended with his kids only because it involved mostly Freo players, was free for kids (for the 1st time ever) and Fremantle had been pumping it up to its members and supporters all week with a continual flood of emails & social media pump up.
Have no problem with that but how about both the WCE & Freo doing that EVERY YEAR not just when their Reserves are involved!

Watching it on TV i did notice a fair sprinkling of fans wearing purple and thats understandable consindering who Peel are aligned to.

Im an Eagles fan and i can tell you East Perth is one of the last clubs id barrack for in a GF as a neutral supporter, each to there own i guess.

I've no doubt you're probably right BH with your stats, I think the days of a big crowd at the GF are over dare I say it, it may take a Swans v Perth GF to get it up to 20 to 25 thousand again.

The facts are though the trend was upward this year, like I said my mate
Reckons there were more than the recorded figure he doesn't remember his kid being counted and the Royal Show may have had something to do with crowd figures as well.

PN we got just under 24k & 25k only 6 & 8 years ago vs the League's 2 smallest supported clubs Sub & CL respectively. I have no doubts whatsoever 30k would be reached if P & SD were to finally play each other in a GF considering the lack of success both clubs supporters have had over the last 30 years. In fact if it were marketed correctly by the WAFC even more could be achievable (like free entry for kids) tho they only seem to make an effort or push the 2 AFL clubs to when it is one of their darling alignment babies are in it!

15,000 at a GF given just a few years ago we could get over 20k consistently , decent weather, fact that both local afl mobs were in mothballs weeks ago, it was up against no afl games on TV, was Peels first ever and loaded with aflers, had to hand out free tickets to kids and probably a lot of other, still could not pull 20,000 is piss poor.

PN we took the granddaughter through and she wasn't scanned as she didn't have a ticket and there were no turnstiles so only those over 15 with tickets were in that 15k figure so the actual number there including u/15's would have been at least 18k. Many on here bleat about the WAFC not doing enough to get youngsters to the games, but they finally get off their overpaid arses and did something. On this one thing only I applaud the WAFC, but the precedent has been set and they will have to do it every GF and should make it for all WAFL games, better still make it u/18 free like the SANFL.

There was 30K for the SANFL Grand Final. You get that when you promote your product on TV, radio and newspapers properly.

The WAFL seems to rely on the articles written in the West and Channel 7 to do all their promotion. TV promotion on 7 doesn't really work on people like me who only watch Foxtel and would only ever watch 7 when at a Grand Final function or if we have to endure a 7-broadcasted match on Fox Footy. I have only ever heard radio promotions for WAFL on Sport FM when they plug their radio match, with no references to other matches that weekend.

If GF tickets were $15 or $20 for adults, it would be a whole lot more appealing than the $30 that it was. Having 20000 at $20 would look better than 15000 at $30, even if a slightly lesser amount of revenue did come in at the gate.

It seemed to me that there was more than 15000 so that would explain it. Kids not counted. Under 18 free would be great.

Well said CO. The Wafl Grand Final and the Finals series in general have been very flat with little interest from what I've noticed. Only witnessed the one Wafl promo on tv during the Finals. Not being a big tv watcher, perhaps there were more? Don't mind being corrected if wrong. Do realise the Worst and online articles would be available but that's hardly good enough. Having only the one tv Wafl promo from what I saw is a very poor return especially when other sports are advertised and promoted regularly! Questions need asking in that regard? Sad to say, the radio promo's did not fare any better. In this general locality there was only the one shop that displayed a South Fremantle Guernsey. No other shops or businesses displayed any Wafl related items at all. Usually one sees when driving around a scattering of Wafl club coloured house streamers, flags, balloons etcetera. Not so during these Finals :( There's just been no interest during this Finals series, sad to say! Not sure the wisdom of people being charged the 30 $ entry fee but then families were compensated whereby children were admitted for free. But the Grand Final 15000 attendance figure is still low for what's supposed to be the biggest game of the season.
