Cheer on the Sharks? No way!
The lighting issue is a good explanation for the game being at subi

Speaking of promotion it was good to see a story on Channel 7 tonight about the Gala Dinner which was held at Lathlain last night.

Plus1 wrote: Hopefully all WAFL supporters not just EF and EP get behind this game. I think its great they are trying something new. Next year different teams will open the year and again all WAFL supporters should get the season started in style.
This time last year rd 1 started without a whimper.
Get involved or stay home and keep complaining, the latter hasnt worked so far.

Personally, Plus1, I will be at Basso Oval supporting Swans.

Perhaps it would be easy to explain the theory of relativity and chaos theory than to explain the machinations of the WAFC. But we all know that every decision the WAFC makes is the best and most appropriate for the WAFL competition. One would be hard pressed to think of a single decision made by the WAFC in the context of the WAFL competition which was detrimental to the WAFL competition.

Your starting to sound like George Griller Swannie...lol Just incredible,,,

Bazza I sincerely hope you didn't misunderstood my meaning. Let me know if you did.

lighting at wafl grounds are not up to scratch for tv telecasts.I've had problems picking up players at night games so i can see the reasoning. If they want a televised night game it has to be subi.

I imagine the idea was that the opportunity to start the season off with a live broadcast on a Saturday night at peak viewing time, with no AFL to go up against was very tempting - and Subi oval would be the only place that has lights suitable for broadcasting night footy. The trade off being a lack of atmosphere due to a small crowd - but I for one am rapt that they are being bold and are trying something. I'll be watching the Subi v Claremont game at Leederville and then heading over to Subi oval to support the initiative. Honestly - the promotion of this season has been about 2000% more than any I can recall in 28 years, and I don't understand the negativity.

I'm with you also mate, this is publicity like we could of only dreamed about a couple of years ago.

I think getting Dennis Commetti to help advertise is a very good move. Most people feel very familiar with him.

I suppose we will have to wait and see how the crowd attendances and tv viewers go over the first couple of rounds to know if the increased marketing and the move to a commercial tv station is working.

Barney perhaps you can explain how the front page of The West from earlier in the week is promoting the WAFL competition when you had one player from one of the clubs and two kids wearing jumpers which as far as I am aware not worn by any of the WAFL clubs? If you think it is and I quote 'insignificant aspects' perhaps you should apply to be a member of the WAFC.

Not a bad thing though Swan, although yes it would have been nice if one kid was wearing Peel and the other a Royals jumper, but then would that have been sending the right message?

I think the AFL jumpers were possibly being worn to an advantage. From a marketing point of view, the Subiaco jumper was in prominence win the photo. Physiologically its allowing kids to connect. There has now been a whole generation who have known nothing but the Eagles and Dockers.

Its now an excellent opportunity for an overhaul the WAFL merchandise. A similar range between clubs, wearable, identifiable. The WAFL logo needs to be used to its full marketing potential too.

Some points Mike:

The game is between East Freo and "East Perth"

Surely it was an opportunity to showcase ALL NINE WAFL clubs

If you are trying to promote the WAFL what relevance is a Freo or an Eagles jumper
