For the first time since at least when Pepsi were involved , I've seen a genuine piece of real commercial promotion of the WAFL Season.

All through the Central Perth Train Station there are large illuminating billboards promotong WAFL footy , sponsored by the new sponsor MACDONALDS.

They are offerering prizes of meals etc,,and the adds are really proffesional and look commercialy impressive.

This is great stuff for WAFL and directly connected to the new commercial TV coverage.

It is fantastic isn't it? Not in Perth at the moment but seeing some of the advertising on social media. It is exactly what most have been after for years and it's great to see.

Yet some will still and are complain about insignificant aspects which was highly predictable.

Barney perhaps you can explain how the front page of The West from earlier in the week is promoting the WAFL competition when you had one player from one of the clubs and two kids wearing jumpers which as far as I am aware not worn by any of the WAFL clubs? If you think it is and I quote 'insignificant aspects' perhaps you should apply to be a member of the WAFC.

I will agree this year's WAFL promotion has shown "signs of improvement" but when you come from a base of absolutely zilch just anything is going to be an improvement now isnt it!

*Now sit's back waiting for the WAFC's official ozfooty apologist to pipe up with the mandatory pro commision claptrap ..once he get's the nod from Ron & Bruce of course!

I am open minded enough to give this new arrangement a chance to work, but I just cannot understand why the first game of the season would be played at Subiaco Oval. There will be no atmosphere there even if they get 5000 people. If they played the same game at Leederville it would be a different experience for both the crowd and the TV viewer. The West Coast V Indigenous All stars game is a case in point. It leaves me to wonder if channel 7's motivation is in all this is just to build up its AFL TV audience rather that encourage people to go to the WAFL. Yes I know any promotion is better than none and I really hope that the interest created is demonstrated by increased crowds as the season goes on.

I agree any promotion these days is good. But I don't understand why have the first televised game at SubiacoOval. there will be 40,000 empty seats and that is a very negative look for the WAFL. I don't see the point of it or the value other than to add another image chink. Why cant the powers in charge who organise these things see it ? But we live with it these days.

If they are going to do it, why not just make it a one off day with a double header and televise the second game. At least they would double the crowd and maybe attract a few extras. Create some kind of atmosphere in that concrete jungle.

I think it is to do with revenue -- all monies will go to the Commission, EF having already been compensated for moving their home game. We will probably see more of this in the future, because, as I have said before, the building of the new stadium has really hurt WA football.
