The top dogs aren't in it for the good of the sport its the awesome pay that draws them in. Maybe the WAFC powers that be should be on incentive based pay structure??

You know who runs this league in truth?

The people who turn up every week at every ground and run the canteen, get the ground ready, wash the jumpers, fill the water bottles at training, get stuff done in the heat for pre season, get soaking wet during the season so 66 blokes can run out on a weekend.............for no renumeration what so ever except for maybe a mention at the end of year awards and just to see their team play.

Maybe the hobnobs should go down on a Saturday and see what these men and women do from 7am - 8pm at these clubs and then tell them thanks but " sorry our money is better spent somewhere else" What a slap in the face for somebody who has been helping out at these clubs for 10 20 30+ years to maybe think their club may not survive.

Agree with your sentiments here Turtle. Same could be said about all levels of footy outside of the AFL which wouldn't exist in the first place if not for the efforts of tens if not hundreds of thousands of volunteers over the past 100+ years in making the game great and affording it the ability to become the powerful corporate entity that it is today. Self interest of these so called elite few makes me sick and they do it under the guise of what is good for the game when reality is whatever helps them achieve bonus no matter the collateral damage to what they term 'the feeder comps'. Made me laugh when a young now fully qualified physio I know told me how stoked he was to be picked up by the Eagles to be a part of the recovery team. When I asked him how much they are paying him he laughed and said he is "doing it for love". Even at the top level where there is money to remunerate those who help the expectation is that if you want in you work for free. You'd at least think that those that volunteer their time and skill might at least be given a few dollars to help cover costs like fuel so they can get to training etc. Whilst I understand that he will be learning extra skills from some very experienced people and some might call that a privilege others might also call that slave labour when you consider does the club have the means to at least cover the costs of their volunteers. Meanwhile those at the top count their high 6 figure to 7 figure salary packages for doing what exactly I guess we volunteer types will never know.
