How is this a WCE or EP issue in particular. It's nonsense that AFL clubs would draft someone to play in their reserves team to win a premiership.

I try not to comment on 'topics' which are on the AFL as the whole monstrosity annoys me, but some of the comments on here leave a lot to be desired. Firstly, know serious supporter of the WAFL would back the proposition of a mid-year draft as it would be too disruptive for the competition. Secondly, the comparison with the WAFL taking players from their juniors and country zones, is actually the reason to oppose the AFL idea. Do you really want the WAFL clubs treated in the same way by an AFl which should not have influence in WA at all? Subiaco ripping players out of the Gold fields every year is wrong, but you do not fix one wrong by creating another wrong in another facet of football to benefit a pack of Victorians. I can assure you that I would be most miffed to lose a Subi player mid-season; I am not interested in seeing players advance to the highest level -- they can do that the following season. There is such a thing as honour in our lives: when we make commitments to others and football clubs, we should be encouraged to honour them not run out on them because Buckley can't coach or has injuries.

Well said Ark....maybe clubs should be able to trade player for player mid season if they can negotiate it but a mid season draft dragging players in from outside of the AFL system compromises the whole system with regards to the draft order let alone the sports betting and bookmaker markets the AFL have so cosily attached themselves with. Dumb idea!

Thanks DW -- yes if they wish to have an internal mid-season draft, that is fine; but, as you pointed out well, it is a complex issue concerning the whole football community
cheers.
